Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Probably. Looking at it again, I think that Meves is right about the upper element having been split. It looks like a three-element wing now. Possibly four, since there is what looks like another faint line farther down, but without daylight showing through. (Or it's a slot - blown diffuser anyone? )

Yeah, I was talking about that extra slot (the visible one), I think it might work a bit like this concept on the RB6:

The mechanism is similar for MP25 except that the air is sourced externally.

I don't like the look of the exhausts now.. they remind me of the doggy early season '24.. I hope this version is just for Bahrain.

Yeah, this is the same trend. I noticed Renault using the technique in the young driver season testing last year. Some other machines use a similar principle. like turbine engines and pulse jets.

I better modify the picture and write "F1-technical" on it before I people from other sites take it. lol

About the snorkel, i think it's just there to cool the drivers for Bahrain.
Remember what happened to Alonso last year?

There was a pic with Button getting out of the car. I think i saw his shin through the snorkel hole. So it's just a little vent for extra cooling. Driver comfort is very important if you want to get 100% out of them.

Any chance that the 'shark fin' could house a small fuel tank, that maybe trickle fed the main fuel tank throughout the race? Or maybe once main tank was down to a lap or 2 dropped in roughly 26 kilo's of fuel. I'm thinking along lines of weight distribution. Or is it impossible.

I don't think that storing your fuel up there would be a) very safe, b) very good for the cars centre of gravity and c) very legal.

Out of the tank thinking though, keep it coming. :)

And what about crash tests? Is it possible to make it durable enough in that shape?

Durability i thought of lol, With it been attached to the rear wing i thought the strengh would be ok, but as you mention wouldn't pass crash regs. 1 other idea i had was the whole fin could be hollow and used for drag to take some stress from the brakes, as on the mclaren SLR some kind of air brake? but again how would you legally operate it.

Hey Ringo, if you remember where you saw the picture, would you mind posting it? That would be cool.

They've also added a glowing red rosary hanging under the rear light. Is this papist adornment a sign of them stealing Ferrari plans again?
