... This is what Degradation is. This Barcelona,a high speed track which eats the tyres. Last year the tyres were Softs & Hard. The Softs are now Medium & the Hard is obsolte....

Even last year the Super-Softs lasted 1 Lap. After that there was 2-3 Second Drop if it was pushed hard for the QUICK lap.

Its fairly obvious he pushed hard. If you push hard you loose time. Same happened with Nico,he lost at least 0.5s on the next lap if he pushed hard. The new soft wont last 2 very Quick Qualifying laps, atleast not in a Mercedes. Malayasia will have Medium & Hard tyres. And Barcelona will probably have Medium & Hard tyres too.

Now, alonso and grosjean are on soft.

On the second stint past lap 4, you can see the Lotus is easier on tires and then surpases the Ferrari's pace. It's going to be a fight with them at first.

Alonso lost 3s over 8 laps. The Softs in Barcelona just dont last that long.

Well, Fernando second stint was very short, lot of tyre wear as he dropped from 1'29 to 1'32 in just 8 laps...
Grosjean laptimes are much more consistent, even with the soft tyres.
And Barcelona will probably have Medium & Hard tyres too.
Last year it was Soft/Hard...

@hangaku

All i was referring to is that testing is not as entertaining as it could be and i think most would agree. That is not the purpose of testing i know but this is the first time i have known testing to be televised in the UK. This is the year 2012 and F1 is an entertainment business at the end of the day so we could see changes although like you say, yes it is speculative nonsense at present. I for one would welcome some kind of structured testing format in the future where we could all draw some closer comparisons.

Vettel is out with some sort of a load, perhaps full. That RB is a clock.

1:28.652 (59)
1:28.748 (60)

Start of race sim at 16h when the track is closed at 17h 30 ? I don't think so.

if this race sim by Ferrari is genuine, they are doomed.

Vettel is not doing a Race Simulation. He is not in Full Tanks. That is for sure. His times will be in 1-29's to 1-30's for sure.

Alonso is suffering massively.Loosing 3s+ over a 10-11 Lap Maximum. Sometimes 9s. The Ferrari is struggling With tyre Degradation as big as Mercedes. Looks like Massa's times yesterday were all Light Fuel Runs.

Am I right in thinking the lotus has currently done 44 laps (and still going) on one set of tyres - started in the low 30s, now in the low 27s?

I might be getting a bit confused, but thats incredible?

Yep , looks like it !

you can see for yourself at http://f1tests.co.cc/2012.php?rev=on

Good stuff for lotus! They need this because they missed the previous testing due to chassis problems.

Good stuff indeed

still looking like the renault engined cars have got some blowing tweak that the others don't have ; so expect caterham to be closer to the midfield , williams to be move up the midfield , lotus to be up with mercedes despite their improvements and red bull to still be top of the field

looking forward to seeing what kimi does the last 2 days !!!

to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be
