Looks like Alonso may qualify on mediums again. He (as the only driver) used four sets of softs already, at least, and kept all harder options.
You get 8 sets of softs for the weekend , you can only carry 4 to Quali.
it's definitely a very unusual approach to run only softs on Friday, and not one he'd go for without reason, I think.

Running mediums in Quali was an advantage in Imola already, and they certainly looked good for Russell and Albon today.

Teams have access to 13 sets of tires:
2 x Hard
3 x Medium
8 x Soft

The other thing is , the Tires Here are C6, C5 and C4(Hard) instead of C5,C4 and C3(hard) from last year. So the Mediums are the softs from last year and the Hard the Mediums from last year.

Lance has had bad luck. Fernando seems happy, and his P2 time seems good to me. The mediums seem much better than the softs.

I've been looking into the dust because I found it curious. Apparently, the wildfires have left a lot of dust suspended in the area. I thought it was sand dust. I suppose it will improve if it's more ash than sand.

I'll check to see if I can find the updates/modifications AM has planned for this race.

I think the mediums definitely look like the better qualifying tire and then they can combine that with a hard for the race

Was it really bad luck or a further example of bad judgement? There wasn't a need to take such a risk that early into the session.

I think it's bad luck because it didn't seem very important; I don't think anyone immediately thought there would be so much damage.

Others have also brushed against the walls without causing as much damage. It's as if he had hit a reinforcement in the wall or something similar.

Also, he recently had surgery on his right hand.

And he's the son of the guy who pays all the bills.

Too late in night to watch fp2 here. single lap looks good.

Looking at long run times at end of FP2, ALO times were not good.

But then saw in timing app that he is the only one to do long runs on softs

Assuming ALO uses 2 more softs in FP3. It becomes critical to get through to Q2 in quali with 1 set of softs (which has not been the case this year) so that he can keep 1 new MED set for race.

Interesting thought. Keep the 2 hards for the race. Use 1set of soft plus 3 sets of mediums for quali. Start race on the least used set of mediums used in quali with 2 more stints on Hard.

ALO can save all hards and mediums and use 2 more softs in FP3, that leaves him with 2 set of softs for Q, but 1 set is reserved for Q3. Realistically he starts Q1 with the soft set, followed by a medium set. 2 set mediums in Q2 and the 2nd soft set in Q3 again, unless he can save a set of mediums, abandoning a lap at the end of Q1 or Q2. Don’t think they will save a set of mediums for the race.

2nd option is a one-stopper, in that case he will use one set hards in FP3 and has a third set softs in Q.

You get a 14th set of tires if you make it into Q3, has to be softs.
