Most people measure employment loyalty by time. Does that mean I should say I worked my current employer for 5 years, or 2375 reports?

Agree to disagree.

People think Lewis will want to leave McLaren to get a better car to win the title, but I think he won't leave until he's won at least one more title with them.
Education is that which allows a nation free, independent, reputable life, and function as a high society; or it condemns it to captivity and poverty.

Let me rephrase then:
With Jim Clark and Michael Schumacher, the way they were connected to the team, their vibe, their attitude said: "This is my team, this will always be my team, through good and bad times. If things are bad, I will be there by their side to fight our way back to the top."

That is not the vibe I get of Hamilton; in that sense, he seemse more like a good-weather driver in that sense. Which isn't bad perse, but it's different.

What gives you the vibe that he is a fair weather driver?
I have never seen him complain, never seen him whinge, never ranting, never seen him give up in a race. It is always 100% effort even if the race turns out a disaster - Monaco and Canada 2011. A very grateful driver.

Only Occasion I recall he has shown frustration was in Australia 2010.."this is a bad fricking Idea!" Which is not showing ungratefulness.

Anyway I just googled Mclaren and this is what I see near the top of the page:
Bernie Ecclestone: Lewis Hamilton on brink of McLaren exit

I don't think he is a fair weather driver - I think deep down he is loyal to McLaren. But to say he doesn't complain/whinge I don't agree. He seems somewhat emotionally impulsive at times. Such as Singapore 2011; when he said something asking for information in an angry frustrated tone, which basically was saying, "is there really any chance for a good result anymore? If not I'd just park it." brundle read the radio message the same way.

In Australia 2010 he also shouted at the team over the radio asking why they told him to pit. He said the tyres were fine, and the team should have asked him before telling him to pit. And ended off with "whatever guys. You've ruined the race."

If it had been me in the cockpit you'd probably have heard the same thing - it was fairly justified given what had just happened to him at that point in the race. But I would call that "whinging."

Fair weather racer in the sense that, when things are good, he's great.

But when things aren't going as well, you'd see Schumacher or Alonso or (late 2010-on) Vettel get themselves together, analyse what's wrong, learn and come out stronger to improve. Hamilton's response seems to be frustration and crashing into people because of that.

A pilot goes by the hours too. And Formula 1 drivers are sometimes called Formula 1 pilots.

Crashing into people such as who? -Don't answer because the race threads are already over ridden with arguments on Hamilton incidents.

All I have to say to that is that Hamilton is the best forumula 1 overtaker on the PLANET, he's knows what he is doing - A master. The unfortunate part of overtaking is when the other guy doesn't know how to be overtaken - or simply blocks the overtake.

Call me crazy but Hamilton is THE Authority on how to do an overtake. If he says the overtake is possible it is. If he says he screwed up he screwed up. But 99.99% of his contacts overtaking other drivers have been not to an error in the overtaking maneuver but to misunderstanding of the guy being overtaken.

One second slower car.. watch this.. A man like this obviously knows what he is doing when it comes to positioning the car on the road and positioning other drivers car by force. Masterful.

And anyways.. I still don't see how being a fair weather driver relates to this. The doldrums of 2009 are a good example of a WC caliber driver in a dog of a car.

Just as long as he never ends up at Ferrari, I'll be fine.

I admit that I don't have a necessarily rational reason to dislike the guy, however I simply could not stomach the piling upon his bandwagon en masse by the most obnoxious fans F1 has to offer. To many, it seems, he walks above water, and all that hype makes him highly overrated.

(To be fair, the Vettel contingent is currently giving the Hamilton Fan Club a good run for its money.)

IMO Hamilton supporters are the "salt of the earth" fans of F1.

In aviation, the more incident free hours you clock the higher is your rank, but for F1 driver, having more seasons under your belt doesnt mean anything unless you are winning.

Trulli or Ruben vs Vettel?

Lewis contract is up for negotiation now and i am pretty sure Mclaren would want him to sign a multi year contract while Lewis might prefer a shorter term contract or a contract with exit clause, just in case things doesnt improve over at Mclaren. (which is possible considering their constructor championship drought since the late 90s.

This is a crucial time for his career, one wrong step and he might end up as the greatest one-hit wonder. Personally i think Lewis should leave the team and get some fresh air outside Mclaren.
