Speaking of Arrivabene vs Hembery I don't think it'll amout to much. I thought I read a tweet somewhere though which said Pirelli are forcing through some regulations about pressure & camber settings from this weekend. Is that true?

If it is then I hope the media and TP's (or reps) go absolutly crazy!

According to Italian press Mercedes is using all 7 tokens at Monza, while Ferrari is using 3.

According to Andrew Benson teams have been told that minimum tyre pressures will be raised for this weekend

Just what was expected, I guess.
'External influence' nothing else.
If true, so be it.

However, what I found rather refreshing was Pirelli's statement re VET's tire degradation and remaining tire as such.
"The remaining tread thickness on Sebastian Vettel's rear tires was approximately 30 per cent at the time of the failure, making the tire more susceptible to damage from small pieces of debris."

How I read it ... it was not VET/FER fault either.
VET & FER would have been able to complete the race safely, if not for the (externally caused) cuts on the tires.
So, both parties are in the clear.

Still, what I do not understand - if Pirelli is of the opinion that only external influences caused the tires to burst, why are they then lobbying that heavily (at FIA) to up the tire pressure and reduce the chamber?

Strange how it all balances out though. Taking ICE alone

17 engines for Mercedes across 8 cars
20 engines for Renault across 4 cars
19 Engines for Ferrari across 6 cars
16 engines for Honda across 2 cars

Similar sorts of engine usage for each engine supplier....but a big difference in the number of engines per car.

Mercedes looks pretty bulletproof engine-wise, and if they're actually going to spent a lot of tokens on an upgrade, it must make others nervous.

Honda must be hoping that Suzuka is an anomaly for them this season with actual performance. (maybe even half fill the cars, turn up all the settings and let them go flat out for as many laps as possible to give false performance figures for the faithful.

"Mercedes to use all remaining 7 tokens for Monza engine. The Petronas fuel will also be upgraded." From Tobias Grüner's Twitter.
Here's what Google Translation gave me from the article on AMuS:
According to statements by Mercedes' employees the upgrade is a strategic engagement with a view toward 2016. The engineers modified the engine in areas that they are no longer allowed to touch over the winter and made him fit for a new fuel that is present Petronas in Monza ,"This opens up new directions of development for the future," said a spokesman. Voerst only Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will drive the experimental engine. The Mercedes customers get fresh engines, but from the old specification. Whether they come later in the enjoyment of the experimental units, is still unclear.

It's here too: http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/merce ... italian-gp Will they be 2 s quicker in Q  ?
"The changes are limited to the main works team for now, although it is possible that customers Williams, Lotus and Force India may have access to the developments later in the campaign."
Now imagine Williams or McLaren (had they stayed with Merc) challenging Mercedes for titles. That's why all the big teams including Red Bull (until they got inferior one) loved those changes. How was it, all engines are identical and homologated, what's the point in running different specification engines? I guess there is a point. Now Ferrari is supposedly trying to sell RB their engines but this time A spec. So Sauber gets B spec.

For Mercedes, there is no special engine for Monza this weekend, instead the team is exploring a new development direction with consideration towards the future rather than looking for a huge performance leap.

Asked about the upgrade, Hamilton said: "It's mostly [about] reliability, it's fuel, an improvement in the efficiency.

"We're not here to make a huge step. It's about improving reliability so we can push the engine more.
Which is all very interesting.

Higher efficiency = more power = better performance

Hmm...
let me try...

Higher efficiency + reliability = power for longer = faster lap times?

Subtle kick in the teeth to the other engine manufacturers. We don't really need to spend our reamining 7 tokens but we're doing it simply as a way to improve reliability and things that will benefit us next year with Petronas fuels and oils.
