Point taken.

Anyway, I personally don't think Webber is that much worse a driver than the rest of the people on that list. Is he overrated, yes. But, so is just about everyone else from this era.

Does anybody seriously want to defend Webber's dangerous and idiotic inability to race in traffic after today?

Personally I don't think that was Webber under pressure and just barging through. I think he kind of forgot to take into account that the new teams have less downforce and less braking, and how Heikki would have to start braking a lot earlier.

Taking into account that you're extremely close to the car in front and that you'll have to brake earlier to avoid an incident, unless you have room to get past, is such a basic part of racing it isn't even funny. Your attention then turns to getting through the corner so you give yourself a better chance into the next one. You learn that in karting. It's something that Webber has never seemed to have acquired.

Well, I said we shouldn't base our opinion of him on Barcelona and Monaco.........and I was right. I said that these incidents follow him around and I was right. It's 2001 repeated basically.

He blew it last year. Looks like he's doing it again this year. A move today, straight from a rookies book!

One more in favor of the Aussie. If I were in the position of picking a pure racer Webber would definitely be on my short list.

My opinion about today? That track just sucks. It's one line venue that has NO room to pass and little room to race. It's more like watching an F1 parade and with the field so close and aggressive (like Hieki saying he was never going to yield to Webber). Crap like this just happens. Did Heiki really feel his oats today thinking he could run with RB? Just nuts and I don't think I ever need to watch a race at this track again.

Well Kamui Kobayashi apparently thought he could run in P3 for most of the race and it payed big time for him. I'm all for racing. The slower guys have every right to defend their position if they can. That way they earn their team TV exposure and get some budget to make the car better. Webber (as well as Alonso in Monaco) seemed to forget that.

Webber screwed up. It is not the end of his championship fight and he should be glad the safety worked perfectly. With another broken leg from such a huge shunt it would have been game over for this year.

I was amazed that he walked out of that fine. That incident just reminded me completely of Schumi hitting DC in Spa, and also the crash reminded me of Kubi K in Montreal

WhiteBlue I have to suggest the fundamental differance between Koby and Kovi is that Koby kept Jens behind as he was doing a good job and banging out the lap times, heck he was running in the 39's. Where as Kovi was what 4 seconds off the pace. Its folly to try and compare.

I beleive it was a racing incident, but above all what it shouts to me is the new teams need to get their act together as it was like watching 2 different formulas out there. Webber was dialed in out there to his breaking points and so on, then he rolls up to the back of a guy whos breaking distance is close to double that of what his is! The two cars should be in different races really.

Webber hit Kovi on a dry track due to a misjudgment of the slower cars braking distance.

Schumi hit DC in a monsoon with zero visibility because DC went off throttle on the racing line which in an F1 car is pretty close to a break test. The "racing accident" did massive damage to Schumi's WDC campaign which was fought against DC's team mate Hakkinen. The two incident were very different.

Kubica's Montreal crash was more comparable because he also launched his car into the air by hitting a rear tyre. He actually hit three concrete walls during his crash and was very lucky that the first wall contact deflected him into a shallow angle for the second. He also escaped being T-boned by other cars when he crossed the whole track skidding in his tub without wheels. One cannot praise F1 enough for the safety improvements of the cars and tracks that saved both driver's life.

It sure was a big accident. I do not agree that a car being 4 s off the pace on a 100 s lap is dangerous by itself. It is just the drivers that have got used to the fact that all the poor teams have gone bust so they do not have to be careful any more.

We had this state of affairs only for some years and they all lost the art of dealing with slower cars. Of course this is compounded by the fact that the current formula is completely screwed up by aerodynamics. It is pathetic that Button could not get by Kobayashi for 42 laps with a car that was 1.3 s faster.

If you go back some years you find that cars lapping at 104 % of the time of the leaders was pretty normal during most of the history of F1. IMO, Webber should re learn the art of passing slower cars and F1 should address the issue of overtaking without gimmicks.

 Try totting up the DNFs this idiot consistently gets. I wonder how long it will be before someone gets killed as a result of this idiot's misjudgements.

When you follow a car in front you don't follow six inches from the back of it into a braking zone, because you know, there's a risk you could run into the back of it. Decide where you want to pull out or back off. This is karting 101. Webber's defensive nonsense after the race was par for the course.

This is basically the most apt explanation of what happened.

Kovi didn't weave in the braking area (go watch the video if anyone has forgotten) he was veering left into the braking zone as any car would do trying to get around that corner. Webber was very, very close to him and simply got caught out. It almost looks - judging by the way Webber's car weaves right before he hits - that he lacked a bit of braking as well from being so close.

The talk of Kovi should've known he was in a slower car and pulled aside line of thinking is just crap imo. Hundreds or races have been won by drivers in cars which weren't the fastest.

Attitude is not an easy trait to carry but he still thinks he's one of the best. The conundrum is that he entangled himself in one of the best Car of 2010, which has an ability to 'GIVES HIM WINGS.'

obviously it was Webber in anticipation the lotus would move away ...as it is a lotus and those move away as they are usually lapped..when a RB appears in their mirrors...he simply got it wrong big time.
Kova fighting a redbull is a bit naughty as well...he had no tool in hand to try
and defend position ,did he?
