No, Ferrari are essential to F1. FiA and FOTA need to listen to them.

Ferrari is F1's biggest spender, while Hispania Racing boasts the smallest budget, an industry publication has found.

But the latest edition of 'Business Book GP' said the teams association FOTA has succeeded in dramatically cutting costs with its resource restriction agreement, according to a report in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.

The average annual team budget has reportedly decreased from EUR 209 million in 2009 to 113m in 2011. It was 119m in 2010.

Ferrari's (199m) is the highest budget, while HRT's (34m) is the lowest.

And the reduction in the average figure, while apparently impressive, is also due to the arrival of three low-spending new teams, and the withdrawal of big-spenders like BMW and Toyota and the scaling-down of Renault's operation.

The report also said that despite the success of the cost-cutting, the Martin Whitmarsh-led FOTA wants to further empower the resource restriction agreement.

Reportedly, not every team in F1 has reduced its spending. Business Book GP said Team Lotus is spending much more money in 2011, while Virgin, Sauber and Red Bull also have bigger budgets than a year ago.

Meanwhile, grandees Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Renault are all now spending less, relying on sponsors for more than 50 percent of their budgets.
That Ferrari is the biggest spender is no great surprise to observers of the F1 scene. They have the lowest engineering efficiency of all GP teams and live off their former glory.

In my view it is essential that F1 carries on with the budget and resource restrictions in order to once more show case engineering talent an not the fat cat accumulated huge fortunes. Let the best people win and not the big money!
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

More Ferrari bashing........

Can we bash McLaren as they are not short of a few quid and MrM liked Ron Dennis as much as he liked Luca di Montezemolo.

So what if Ferrari have a massive pile of gold? F1 is not a left wing communist system!

How about posting the spend amounts of ALL teams rather than just focusing on those nasty evil Italians.

He was indeed, and I don't recall the same hatred freom WB way back when?

If Montezuma persists to ignore the 2013 rules, it will either not happen or he will please Tony George no end.

Was not Tony George ousted by his family and no longer invovled in Indycar? Did he worm his way back?

If not Tony George, Bill France's family would surely change the rules 0300 in the morning for the opportunity.

What's the criteria for engineering efficiency? If it is budget/points than they are clearly not worst.
Besides without other teams' budgets there's nothing to talk about. I doubt Macca and RBR spend considerably less, and they don't have to build and develop engines.

And quite possibly still is! I'm interested in why they change in view and why exactly the strong hatred which is verging on taking pleasure in Ferrari's failure. I find it bizzare.

Didn't Red Bull overspend last year, or at least that was the very strong rumours wee saying?

I will ask you to read the other responses in this thread. I also request that you desist from offending our intelligence with unsupported claims ("the lowest engineering efficiency of all GP teams") and clearly illogical statements ("Let the best people win and not the big money!"). Please consider the possibility that the best people get the big money because they are the best. But enough. So sad.

I would be ecstatic if Ferrari left F1. Such an announcement would probably be one of the highlights of my adult life.

Good riddance, I say!

I would like Ferrari back in Le Mans someday, so beautiful cars they used to make back then.
