Engine usage in '09

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I mean, that the mileage Kovalainen's engine #2 after the ninth grand prix became less than after the eighth

How about these latest news for 2011?!

Koenigsegg-Saab will be given a concession to run a 120 degree 3.2 liter V12 for 2011, provided it's run on pure cellulose methanol! This would give a better xplanation for Koenigsegg's interest in F1.
Clearly a move from MrM to widen the scope of F1, no?

Update tomorrow night, and thius one will be colour coded. Once i get some one i know in the computer buisness to get me a copy of Adobe Dreamweaver ill get updates up much quicker on the main hone page of the site.

Ill have alot to update, altho the Chassis page is already pretty much perfectly up to date, just doint the "lesser" data at the moment. The Engine data is labour intencive for accuracy purposes.

But, Vettel has put a spanner in the works, ill theel you that.

Having a deep appreciation of all the hard work many of you have put in with the engine use stats, it pains me to say the information is basically useless.

The teams are free to use any of their eight allotted engines in P1, P2, P3. The only info available is which engine they are using in the race. An incorrect assumption is made that the total laps from a weekend are all done with the same engine. The reason many of the teams appeared to not use engine #1 again is because they began using that for practice sessions for the succeeding races. After that was used up they would then use another engine used previously in a race as their practice engine.

With the available information there is no way to know how many miles are on any one engine. We can say how many miles were used during the race, but we don't know about practice session miles.

Re: Engine usage in '09

That is true.

But is why i think that engines should be used con-currently, basically as soon as one engine is switched out, they teams cannot use another one for FP1, FP2 or FP3. As soon as it is switched out, the FIA put a seal on it that if broken the driver strats from the back of the grid for the next race.

Thats how id have the engine rule.

Teams should get 1 point (or any other arbitrary amount) for each engine they don't use by the end of the year.

Is there a difference between rebuilding a previously sealed engine (assuming no connecting rods are sticking out the side) or showing up with a brand new unsleaed engine. If not, should there be?

Thats why i think all teams should be forced into publishing engine serials as well, just like what Williams do with FP1, 2 & 3.

Anything like that and the engine is concidered a new engine.
