As much as I understand, Ross Brawn put an assembly line model of designing, construction and running in season of cars at Mercedes. Geoff Willis, who is also the chief aerodynamicist, leads the concept design team and hands over to Aldo Costa and his team for the actual construction of the car and moves on to next year's concept. Once the car is developed under Aldo's team, it is then handed over to the team under Paddy Lowe to run in the season. But I am sure, these teams are not totally decoupled and interject at required intervals and needs. For example, now that the W08 is already under construction, it is Aldo and his team who is leading it and Geoff Willis and his team have moved on to W09 concept. At the start of 2017 season, the car will be handed over to Paddy's team. I guess there is also a period of overlapping between Aldo and Paddy's teams.

Now that 2017 car requires a totally different wind tunnel model, I guess they have to stop their development/innovation of W07 on wind tunnel and have to depend more on CFD. So, I doubt if we see any eye brow raising design change for W07 and might just witness improvisation and optimization. That's just my understanding.

Not sure how it works now at McLaren, but in the past, they had two different teams working on alternate year's car and the team that designed and constructed also used to run the show in the season, where the team that just finished a season, used to move on to the next iteration. This was evident in how the cars looked similar through alternate designs.

"Lucky day for Nico, as Lewis valiantly fought his way though (unfair rules, excessive aero sensitivity, tracks where you can't pass, sunlight in his eyes, etc) which conspired to keep him from challenging. Shouldn't the rules be changed? Is the team favoring Nico and neglecting Lewis?"

Lewis runs someone off: "Brilliant," "Racing like winner," "Intimidating," and "Quit whining."
Someone gives it back to him: "Oh the horror!"

Is anyone else sick of the LH fanboy-ism and bias in the press or is it just me?

Yep, it's you

I think they are still developing the W07, but they have narrowed the focus down to things that can be carried over to the W08. Namely, The monkey seat, serrations, strakes, winglets etc.

Ok. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

So the intent of appeal has been withdrawn by Mercedes. One has to look at this as Mercedes keeping the honor to themselves as appeal was never possible in the first place. The sporting rules explicitly mention that no appeal is possible against certain penalties, of which the given 10s penalty is part of.

I'd love to. However the British Media is just about the only place where I can get good coverage of F1. NBC-SN, well if you live in the US, you know they kinda suck.

Basing any opinion just from one news outlet is not very informative. I watch the races at the German and British TV (depending if CH4 has the rights or not) and sometimes the Dutch channel (but thats just awful). Further I try to read the major websites from all the important countries, like Britain of course, but also German, Spanish French and Italian. Therefore I fully understand how some forum members react the way they do :D

Try watching rtl then. That will probably make you happy, provided that you know german.

Could be the same story for sky germany, but dunno.

On a side note, i recall the times a few years ago when Lewis was making similar mistakes to Rosberg's at austria ,and the whole press was descending upon him. There is no in between for the press i guess, you need sensationalism to generate clicks...

I guess that is why Nico has the marketing potential of a used Kleenex. And not only in the British media.

Hamilton has been very careful to craft his image as a British local boy pursuing the dream of racing against all odds, and making it through on sheer determination and skill. If there would be something as a "British dream" he would be in it.

Rosbergs attempts to get rid of his image of being a spoiled kid, of undetermined nationality, making it through on daddy's name and money, have been pretty futile.

Not saying either is true, certainly not.

But it colors how their achievements are rated by the media. Even after 3 WDC's Hamilton still has that likability which is normally reserved for underdogs.

And Rosberg reinforces that image. After the race he could have for instance acknowledged the pass of VES. Like "hey I didn't see that coming surprised he made it stick." Instead he was just telling that VES drove annoyingly and glorifying his own pass on VES. " you know how difficult it is to pass there on the outside"

Surely Button, Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel would acknowledge that they had a good scrap on the track and enjoyed it, even Raikkonen would mumble something like: "it was OK"*

It's those little things. Although I would be the last to underrate the driving qualities of Rosberg he surely could do with a visit to the PR department.

*which in Raikkonen speak roughly translates to:" it gave me near orgasmic pleasure".

I try to limit my opinion on drivers to what they do on the track, keeps it much simpler that way, but pretty much hating all drivers I would think has takes a good bit of joy from the sport.

Even the German press had a hard time "what to do with Rosberg", especially with Niki's adoration of Hamilton. But Vettel is still their favourite.
The fun thing in the German press after their Austrian clash was that it was all focused on Toto's reaction not who was to blame or what actually happend.
The Barcelona incident was exceptional fun with all the different coverages!
