True @Turbo, without the left front the car went into the barrier with it's nose pretty much on the ground, like a ramp.

Good thing Carlos seems to have no big injuries and hopefully will race again soon.

Lower nose, higher nose... there's always going to be something that will present itself as a security issue when the circumstances are right, among which is driving at brutal high speeds on a circuit with limited run off etc. There is no perfect solution, unless we let these drivers fight each others in a computer simulator. :(

I'm very concerned for Sainz - is there any news? Or is it just a "he's responsive - but we don't know more than that yet?". I haven't read anything yet and I was interrupted from the broadcast shortly after it happened...

EDIT: Just saw the above posts. Thanks. That sounds promising. The way the barriers looked shortly after impact, I had a ver bad feeling...
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Yes but higher nose will always be more safe for front impact which is important one(with tecpro) . Don't know but for sure these noses are way too low in my opinion
Massa in monaco, also in tecpro.

I think he's somehow going to be relative ok. Seeing him putting up his thumbs atleast tells he's concious and aware.

The implications of this accident however are much more serious. While Jules' crash was a coming together of several unfortunate circumstances, this crash exposed a fundamental and structural problem, where cars can plough underneath barriers. In my opinion the noses should rise slightly to change the geometry from chassis to nose.

It does not help of course that the cars are raked.

Statement from the FIA:
With confirmation he was conscious and talking, Sainz was then flown on to a hospital for further medical checks.

An FIA spokesperson said: "The driver is conscious, he is OK.

"He has had a certain impact, he has been extricated, but the guy is OK.

"He talked to the doctors, so apparently we think he is fine.

"We need to see when he will be a little better, we will see what's going on, we need to see when the adrenalin is going down.

"He is conscious, he talks, and he even tried to remove his helmet on his own. So it's really good news.

"He talked to the doctor - this is the most important thing."
Thank god =D> .

Yep. Changing to low nose was a knee-jerk reaction to just two nearly there accidents (schumacher abu dhabi and alonso in spa?) where in both cases if the nose was a low nose the mechanics of the accident would not be any different... I hope they raise the height at least to midline.

That was more to do with Webber hitting the spinning rear wheel of the Caterham, nothing to do with the height of the nose IMO.

High noses means actually more safety and performance, I bet they'll back in 2017
I gues the FIA does not care.
They will come up with a solution where teams have to put a horn on top of the nose to prevent it from digging under barriers/other cars.

Cue half a dozen threads about how the cars must be redesigned because of this crash.

You can't design the car for every crash eventuality. You can change the barriers though - should be possible to do that to prevent submarining whilst keeping the barrier effective for other race series etc.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Vettel with his best sectors combined beats bottas by few/100s. That's now a few times similar thing happened to him.
edit.
scrap that, he doesn't actually by few/100s lol.

Very anti-climatic...

The only interesting thing about this track is the final corner in qualifying, people often go sideways since they don't have to care about the exit.
As far as i noticed everybody kept within the white lines.

Jeeeeeeeeeeez such a boring session. Even Lewis was so bored that he parked the car. Temperatures dropping really quickly.
