The ART team are the team to beat in GP2.
You can see his car is faster, why deny it? Had he been in a back marker team would it have been possible?

Nope

Ask yourself this. How did Lewis get the peachy ART seat? Through Mclaren of course!

Nico Rosberg won it the year before with the same team and passed drivers with relative ease too!
Whack him in a slower Williams or Merc and he is blunted.

The same would apply to Hamilton

People ought to be balanced when opining on these matters. Good he is, yes! Great? Dont make me laugh!

Well. This is typical Hamilton, some great moves and speed but couple of things he did is, umm, not too clever.
First -- turning into others after spin (0:45) -- is just plain ruthless, dumb and dangerous. Second -- the way he squeezed the guy at 1:13 is not showing any sportsmanshipness (compare to how he was treated at 2:20), but we've seen same at Monza 2008.
And yeah, cars ARE different in GP2. Note how he wasn't having such an easy time with Glock and Piquet.
Not saying his drive was bad or anything.

I love watching from the side lines seeing different posters bash each other...

It's like Lewis, Alonso, and soo many others like them have said:
The fan's get more excited (over-excited on this) then we do. We just get-in and drive the nuts of the car.

The one who crosses the finish line first wins. Might not always be the best man in the race, but still. The finish line is where the race ends, not in between.

Just my humble 2cents and perspective on this.
But by all means, keep it up, I find it amusing to read, no matter who is wrong or right.

I think that all you hamilton bashers are abit out of tune. Hamilton is a fantastic driver. If any of you have been to see a grandprix live recently you would know what I am talking about. When you are there and you watch him compared to the rest you realise how good he is. His braking is phenomenal and no one comes close to matching him on the brakes. That is why he overtakes with such ease. He has guts and he beats anyone on the brakes.

The car obviously helps with all the engineering behind it. After all, no driver no matter how good will win anything with a rubbish car.

There have been days when hamilton has won when his car wasn't the best just like there have been days when Alonso has done it (everyone seems to have forgotten the Renault championship years with kimi and schumi). All this bashing going on is stupid. Both drivers have their strong points. Hamilton is raw speed and aggression, Alonso is generally calm, collected and calculating. Doesn't mean they are better or worse. They have both won the world championship in their own way.

Oh dear, the "strong leg" myth again. Have people not heard of lever arm in the pedal and the calibration of brake cylinders?

I didn't say all GP2 cars are the same, but the field is much closer than in F1. Much, much closer. That's why we often see plenty of overtakes in a GP2 race. Other thing you forget again : Hamilton did have a teammate at ART GP didn't he ? He finishes 2006 season with 114 points, while his teammate finishes with 66 in same superb ( you say ) ART GP car, not managing even to take the second place. If ART is so superior, than how you explain this ? Piquet-team must have been at least matching the ART team, because there was a battle for championship until the very end, and we know how Nelsinho Piquet performed in F1....so probably his car was even better than ART GP's.

Yes put Hamilton in the Renault and see how he "shines". Piquet is terrible anyways!

Quite! But of course some people will go to ridiculous lengths to justify their man.

Note, I aint dissing hamilton. Contrary to what some have accused me of!
I actually like his driving style! But to say he beat Alonso in 2007 is a lie. And Im no fan of Alonso, but he gets decimated in the british press because....well because he aint british!

All it needs is perspective and balance.

JohnsonsEvilTwin : "Yes put Hamilton in the Renault and see how he "shines". Piquet is terrible anyways!"

I was saying exactly the same ! If Piquet is so terrible ( which I think is true ), than how can he fight for the championship in GP2 if Hamilton is sitting in superior car ? Isn't it means that indeed Piquet's car was superior ? And what about Hamilton's teammate ? You forget him. If the ART was so superior, how "terrible Piquet" takes the second place on the end ?

And yes, we've seen alredy Hamilton in same car as Alonso, no need to put them in Renault to see if he's up to Alonso.

EDIT : Yes, he didn't beat Alonso, but his performance as a rookie was way,way more than anyone could imagine before. He takes four wins, secon place in chapionship, and equal points like Alonso. Hmm...it sound me like someone got beaten here...

Take the Hamster out the Macca and into a Renault and see how well he goes.
Piquet is rubbish, and he was in a team funded by his dad! what do you expect. He is rubbish but still better than you or I.

In the end, I gave a reason for Hamilton being good at overtaking.
2 blindingly quick cars in 2007 and 2008
and Kers in 2009
And the F-duct in 2010.

Nothing I have read in response to my post has made me change my opinion of this.
This "reasons" are not belittleing Hamiltons achievements or skills as they are very good indeed. But there are REASONS for it.

No doubt the Hamilton brigade will come down like a ton of bricks! :wtf:

So he didnt get beat.... but he did?

What lengths are you going to here mate?
And Alonso had it tougher becuase he was fighting Ferrari AND McLaren! But I suppose you would say that McLaren loved alonso and wanted him to win ahead of hamilton?

PML - That's true of all winning drivers. For example Schumacher was aided by having the fastest car on the grid.

Watch his GP2 race in Turkey 2006. Last to second in equal cars. But you've already made up your mind haven't you? You wont go watch it but it happened.

JohnsonsEviltwin - I was taking a shortcut, sorry.

Drivers who do the most overtaking (and winning) happen to drive the fastest cars. That's not to denigrate their skills.
