Antonelli's result in Miami makes me wonder. In all the races so far, except Miami, he has been losing approximately 0.4s on average to Russell in hot laps (both in qualifying and in FP). In race pace the difference is smaller, but in hot laps it is usually between 0.2s and 0.6s. Why was it only different in Miami?! :-k For now, Miami seems like a very suspicious outlier to me because... is a track where teams tend to do something different in terms of marketing, as it is an event with greater visibility.

Imola should be a track where Antonelli does well, given the experience he has on that track (not to mention that it's his home track and that he's already done some private tests with old Mercedes cars there).
Watching his onbosards and listening to some so called experts on the matter i think he struggles in the high speed. His hamds look too nervy and jerky in the high speed but he makes up for it in the low speed where he is mega. Miami is mostly about low speed while imola is mostly high and medium speed corners.

No other rookie has had as much testing as Antonelli has, yet he is barely close to George on one lap speed, forget race pace. Not even George got as many opportunities of testing, before he jumped in the Mercedes and started matching Lewis. Unless some folks are absolute rookies to F1 as a sport, it's in plain sight to see this gross fact.
Nobody gets much testing these days compared to what F1 used to be like.

Antonelli is doing very well all things considered. Is he a certain superstar in the making? No. But Russell is also probably the most underrated driver on the grid, a top 5 guy in the sport easily, and Antonelli has been close enough to him on average to warrant plenty of praise.

When Russell was praising Antonelli in pre-season and talking about 'if you've got it, you've got it', he clearly wasn't just trying to glaze himself. He had seen in testing that Antonelli was not gonna be some pushover. And honestly, I think Russell is probably happy about it. Somebody who is competitive and can push him, but also wont overshadow him publicly.
Antonelli completed 9000 kms of testing before the debut. It's like 27 to 30 grand prixes distance. On top of that, another 1200 kms in pre season testing this year. Give me an example of another driver that has done so much of testing miles before the debut.

That's an elite company.
Lance did 8000 kms before his debut.

Compared to Piastri's first year he is doing fine.

I am sure Piastri did more than 9000 kms testing mileage before he debuted in the 5th best car. Piastri was hyped as the next great thing after Max.

Please stop! The more you diss Kimi, the more it may impact your favorite driver. I don’t want anything bad to happen to George today because karma is definitely a thing.

According to Marcus Dudley, it was all thermal. George had loads of wear left on the mediums when he pitted early.

They really need to figure out this rear overheating.

Same issues from previous season although to a less extent. Still think that withholding the package to Barcelona was a dumb idea

Yeah the rears are just not holding on. These tyres just don't work with the Mercedes, they definitely need to follow Mclaren's design but actually what's very surprising is Verstappen's pace. Redbull must've figured it out.

The free air for Max is probably much of it. Then he had the VSC obviously.
