Today's Monaco Grand Prix brought my attention to a penalty I cna almost never agree with, the "Causing an accident" penalty.
It was issued to Lewis today after his tangle with Massa in the hairpin. This is PART OF RACING. As Hamilton said in a post race interview, there are very few places to overtake at Monaco, so you can almost expect tie ups like that to happen somewhat often in the race.
Another reference to this penalty was last year at Spa when Vettel had some kind of failure or aero problems when overtaking Button on the straight and collided with him, knocking Button out but Vettel escaping with only front wing problems. "Causing an accident"??? there was nothing he could do to stop that from happening.
In my opinion, this penalty should be used more for a driver getting into the rear end of another car, or maybe even swerving off the normal driving line when not overtaking.
