A comment in one of the threads prompted me to do a quick check on how many drivers fail to finish races.
Note that the attrition rate is a lot less than it used to be. Cars are much more reliable nowadays. Here's a summary of how many cars made it from the starting line to the finish line in some sample seasons. This shows how hard it is to compare the DNF for a driver in 2006 to a driver in 2009.
1984: 54%
1989: 51%
1999: 45%
2003: 32%
2006: 30%
2008: 24%
2009: 20%
2010: 25% (or 20% if we exclude new teams)

Anyway, onto the detail for the last 4 years. I have looked at seasons 2077 to 2010 included retired, disqualified and those who get points but fail to reach the finish line.
Button & Webber are surprisingly bad, but of half of their DNFs occurred in 2007. If we only use the last 3 years then their average improves to 13%.
