Which races would you remove from the F1 calendar?

Post

There's a thread discussing potential new locations for F1 races, but it would be interesting to see which races people think we could do without, and why.

My choices would be:
  • Bahrain - I don't like the track and the races it produces, but it would have been interesting to see if the new regs this year improved it at all. On top of that, it appears to be a very sterile venue, lacking any kind of atmosphere. Maybe someone that has been could confirm?

    Monaco - It's full of history and it's cool watching cars racing around the streets, but there's very little overtaking, and if F1 really is committed to improving racing and overtaking opportunities, this needs to be stripped from the calendar. Chances of this happening are zero.

    Turkey - The attendance figures are shocking, and quite simply, if very few people care to go see it, put the slot to some use. Either to break into a new market or to a country where there is a known following of F1

    European - What the heck, how we can end up with a country getting 2 races a season is beyond me!

For many years, Italy and Germany both got two grands prix a year. Its not such an abnormal thing.

None of them (except for Bahrain)...in fact the should add more so that there is a race every weekend of the year :lol: :lol: :lol:

Remove Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, give us some good ones instead.

I would remove Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, go back to the A1 Ring and try and get Indianapolis back, used to be plenty of overtaking there.

And Hockenheim should go back to the old layout, the new one sucks.

Bahrain and Turkey and Valencia, then also bring in a set of races that take place every second year, like the WRC, so that tracks like Imola and the A1 ring, Paul Ricard and the Glen can hold races, because seeing the same race track every year gets boring

Okay, so it's not such an unusual occurrence. There are a lot of potential new markets for F1 now, more so than in the past, and combined with countries that have a history of racing pedigree that are being overlooked, makes this not sit right with me.

I don't mean to reduce the number of races in the F1 calendar, but to open slots for other countries, that would benefit the sport for us fans.

Id get rid of these:

* Bahrain - Politically unstable, and soon we will have India as a perfect mid way race for the first GP. However Abu Dhabi would be nice place for the first GP of the season, however they want to be the last GP.

* European - I think it is the worst track on the calendar, and is just a boring GP generally. European should be a GP that shifts to a different track each year and tracks have to bid for it, and can only host it once in every 6 or 8 years minimum.

Id like to see a 22 race season ideally, with countries where they have 2 F1 grade tracks alternating season in and season out, like this;

01] Abu Dhabi - Yas Marina Circuit
------------------------------------------------
02] Malasia - Sepang
03] Australia - Albert Park
04] China - Shanghai

=======================================
05] Spain - Barcelona/Valencia (i know what i said above) alternating
06] Monaco

-------------------------------------------------
07] French/Belgian - Magney Cours/Spa (Looks like its going to happen in 2013 as Magney have the money and Spa is struggling
-------------------------------------------------
08] Canadian - Montreal
09] USA North - Watkins Glen

-------------------------------------------------
10] USA South - Austin, Texas
11] Mexico - Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

-------------------------------------------------
12] UK - Silverstone
13] Germany - Hockenhiem/Nurburgrin

-------------------------------------------------
14] European - Floating to where there is a F1 grade track
========================================
15] Hungarian - Hungaroring
16] Italy - Monza

--------------------------------------------------
17] Singapore
18] Korea - Korean International Circuit

--------------------------------------------------
19] Japan - Suzuka
20] India - Jaypee circuit

--------------------------------------------------
21] Argentina - Velociudad Argentina (New track)
22] Brazil - Interlagos

Red highlighted is back to back race weekends
---- means a 2 week break
==== means a 3 week break

Id like to limit testing pre season as well to three 4 day events as well, where the last one is a 2 car test, and drivers are limited to 7 days maximum in the car as well. Lest see teams struggling early on. Also limit each team to 3 wing changes a year, allowing teams to go back to previous wing specs, so Monza and Monaco spec wings are done away with.

That would be my idea of a F1 calendar now, with a few other rules included.

Watching drivers race through trees and grass would make for very amuzing racing, wouldn't it?

The old track no longer exists, and good riddance- it was stupid and required no real skill. The drivers didn't like it particularly well either, or at least Brundle didn't...

Anyway, I'd get rid of Valencia and Monaco. Monaco not because of the lack of overtaking, but because this year's weekend convinced me that it is completely unsuitable for racing any more- there were i think 4 crashes at that chicane (Liuzzi, Petrov, Rosberg and Perez) during the one weekend. That's rediculous- these are the world's best drivers, and even they were being caught out by this stupid chicane...

And it always causes too many safety cars and/or red flags- there's just nowhere where the cars can go in an accident besides the barriers.

Much better to remove Monaco and give its place on the calender to somewhere worth having a GP/keeping on the calendar, like Spa or Turkey.

Monaco is just the folly of a few rich people, not something that F1 needs.

Think of it as an addiction- it's not necessary, but F1 just can't let it go. I think that Bernie needs rehab....

There we go. Rant over.

And to the poster above: Couldn't the Spanish race go to another track? I think that there's one called Motorland Aragon or something...

And you could have a Portugese race at Portamao (I don't know how it's spelt, and is it even in Portugal? I think it is lol :lol: )

My longest post ever probably lol.

Abu Dahbi and Bahrain.

And Monaco would be in the top 5 i would never remove, it's wonderful seeing the cars in it, you see them doing things there that can't be seen anywhere else.

Monaco, it's a sub standard F1 track. More of a show for the wealthy. And one that doesn't pay for it's race.

Monaco, Silverstone, Valencia, Abu Dahbi, Bahrain and the current version of Hockenheim (I want the old track back) get my vote for the chop.

That sounds like an idea for Bernie to milk more money out of the tracks. :lol: They'd have to pay an extra 5 or 10 million bucks on top of the usual exorbitant fee they pay every year, just for their GP to have a different name.

I didn't like Germany 2010 for some reason.. just not memorable racing. It just didn't offer much to the viewer.

Valencia and Bahrain (both circuits are utter crap and always serve us insipid races), I'd like to replace them with Imola and A1 ring.
