The owner of Hispania Racing, José Ramón Carabante, sold his team to the Japanese investment bank Nomura on Friday. According to AS, the deal is worth €24 million.

Official confirmation is expected next Monday July 4. The team is assumed to continue operating under the same name at least in the near future.

What do we make of this??

Dont know if it is a reliable source or not, but it was expected. With the charges around carabante, and the fact that he doesnt seem to invest at all in the team it was pretty likely that he sold the team

Do we think its a full buy out or just part investment, €24 million doesn't sound a lot...

I'd love to see Prodrive or Epsilon swoop them up.

Stuff moved from car thread. No need to post the same thing to multiple threads.

Some corporations only sell for 1 dollar. I think Honda's F1 team was so in the red that they sold out to Brawn for 1 dollar too. so I think 24 million pounds is very respectable, at least it is worth something positive.

24 million sounds reasonable, because Carabante only owned the entry, basically everything else came from Kolles.

I reckon that the plan of putting young Carabante in control of the team and fire Kolles is off the table. The bank as the new owner will need someone to run the team this season. There will be no way around Kolles. For next year they may have a client who wants to take over. I'm curious who is behind that move. Perhaps the Japanese simply speculate that they can hold the team until Honda or Toyota want to return possibly in 2014.

And what if the client is Infiniti?

Or Nissan. They have the money and the will to win. Whether the selling price was pounds or euros, the buyer didn't get much. HRT is just one step beyond USGP.

Kolles is far more than USf1 ever was .He made it to the grid and kept the team afloat competing since his involvement. They have some very respectable people on the tech side a fully functional operation indeed,an agreement with MGP Brackley to use their windtunnel ....so not much missing for a good step forward for 2012 ....comparing it with Virgin their recent work in tatters no serious road for improvement visible at this point of the year.
The question is why would you sell to a bank when potential buyers are around?
Makes me wonder if Epsilon or Prodrive are interested at all ..Having a bank as owner will not make this deal cheaper..at least if you are looking for a quick buy

One of the rumours after Valencia is that there was Toyota guys floating around the paddock, and were lining up a engine deal with Hispania for 2012. Id recon it could be a long shot for 2012 for a Hispania-Toyota. I think it would be a lot better than present for Hispania. May be worth it, especially if they can keep Liuzzi and if they can keep Riccardo they could prove a problem to the rear end of the midfield for 2012.
