In doing so, there will always be an advantage to run with one compared to another. I would certainly like to see different solutions, but sadly I don't think that will ever happen again. I think limiting the amount of fuel the teams can use and fully opening the engine regulations would be pretty cool, but I don't think that will ever happen either.
I feel a bit divided about what's happening with the engines.
Like most fans it seems, I'd like to have the V10's back. A big part of F1 is the noise whether we like it or not. When you go to a GP you want to feel the vibrations of the engines thru your body.
Let's be realistic F1 wouldn't be nearly as popular if it sounded like GP3.
I think the 'green' argument is a silly one. In the greater scheme of things a few F1 cars burning some fuel every 2nd weekend doesn't even make a dent in the world's carbon emmissions.
I understand the argument of the technology trickling down to road cars and F1 making the technology more 'sexy' but surely there are some things on an F1 car that will never be intended for a road car and besides this is a sport. If that's an argument, why not just run modified Prius's round the track.
The best argument I can see for new smaller engines is to attract constructors to the sport but that doesn't seem to be working anyway.
I would prefer more private teams in F1 anyway but maybe the costs are too high. Surely they could find ways to help new privateers more. I can't help but feel that the ban on tobacco advertising has made things so difficult. In the old days it seemed easier to get sponsors by way of tobacco money.
Once again it's a case of the bureaucrats ruining everything for the rest of us.
I still believe that the fans want V10's and that seeing as though the fans are the ones ultimately paying for the show, Todt should call a halt to his journey of self importance and give the fans what they want.
Having different engine formulas probably is a better way to go however than just having the V6's. Still if it doesn't attract new constructors I think it's pointless.
