How much HP's they have?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

This probably explains the excelent performance of B.A.R. this year.
Renault engine also should have a little more power.
Good information !

Either way it's the only bullet-proof engine in F1

My opinion is that the numbers are completely wrong; BMW and Ferrari had 860 and 840 bhp in 2001, how is it possible that they have only 830  and 850 in 2002? Honda more powerful than Ferrari in 2003?Cosworth as powerful as Ferrari in 2002 and only 10 bhp behind in '03? Minardi at 840 in '04? Stoddart has recently stated their engine didn't even pass the 800 horses...Regarding BMW, official figures for '02 and '03 engines are nearly 900 bhp and 920 bhp.
The bavarians and Ferrari have officially stated at Monza respectively 950 and over 950 bhp for their '04 engines, Honda claimed 960 bhp for their Suzuka Special.
General belief is that Ferrari 053 and Honda RAE have been the most powerful engines, a bit better than BMW and Toyota.
The sources of the mentioned magazine are clearly unreliable.

The explanation from the magazine...

Post

"OUR SURVEY

Each year at the (mid season) British Grand Prix, Race Engine Technology estimates the maximum power that would be registered for each of the Formula One engines, were they tested back to back on the same dyno. Our estimate is derived following discussion with the engine and chassis chiefs. Each team makes its own estimate of the output of rival engines and we seek a majority view across the Formula One Padock.
For this year's table we took the opinion of the technical chief from all seven manufacturers (in the absence of Nick Hayes....we spoke to.... Bernard Ferguson). We also sought the views of half a dozen team technical chiefs

I will try to scan the article and put it here

Agreed reliability, torque and weight, chassis intergration are all important factors just like horsepower is.
