BURN: Barrichello 'always has an excuse'

Post

Watching the 2011 GT Acadamy on television, and jury member Eddie Irvine and British driver mentor Johnny Herbert are discussing who they should send home.
Johnny Herbert: But this guy, no matter what car we put him in, he always has an excuse.
Eddie Irvine: So we've found our Rubens Barrichello.

Irvine always has a pop at Rubens as whinger, and as much I'm not really an Eddie Irvine fan, as Barrichello's career has panned out I can't say I disagree with him too much.

Eddie is always more mouth than trousers and now he's trying to be the Simon Cowell of motorsport? I could have a few choice words for that man if I ever met him.

Sorry for the use of language here (moderate me if you must) but that self righteous pr!ck can kiss my exhaust port and suck on my crankshaft before I'll take his opinion : he's been digging at Jenson for "only" winning one championship and now he's attacking a driver who's career has shown extraordinary longevity? He only ever got a sniff of a championship because Schumi broke his legs, so what right does he have to criticise?

In the past, Eddie's candour has been refreshing. Now, he's just obnoxious =/

In that same way, what is your right to criticize him?

I am only criticising the way that he portrays himself, not his driving ability. He'll always have more talent behind the wheel than I do, however I would certainly try to act with a bit more decorum in the media.

I would be a hypocrite if I criticised his driving and I feel justified in applying the same standard to him. Besides his single championship shot, I don't think that Eddie really achieved much. Surely he should show a little more respect for championship winners and record holders? Now he's being asked to pass judgement on younger drivers, seemingly on the basis of him shooting his mouth off in the press.

The Simon Cowell "nasty judge" character is becoming a bit of a stereotype and I bet Eddie suits it to a tee. Venting your spleen on a forum is one thing, but trolling in the mass media? I found it amusing initially, but now he seems to play on it for attention and I think it is kinda sad.

So . . . You're not a fan of Mr. Irvine? (I generally agree with you.)

Now thats priceless  .

I only wish both Rubens & Irvine got to read it & then get their respective reactions on camera.

But seriously..., Irvine should atleast respect the man for his achivements. I don't think with the kind of competition coming in year-after-year is gonna give anyone the opertunity to reach the feat.

Irvine is correct with the notion that Barachello moans alot, but I hope Irvine does respect Rubens, and what Rubens has achieved, and I hope Irvine respects the fact that in every single sense, Rubens is a much, much better driver and that's been proven.

So?? What is wrong with it????

I still remember Pastor improving & getting better & on some Qualifying beating Rubens by 0.3-0.4 of a second & Rubens probably did not make Q2 while Pastor was in P12-P13 odd. The next Rubens gave an interview saying he told Frank Williams something like this " You know Frank I am driving my balls off & taking the car to the limit, you know why I am still doing this because I want to take this team from his mess & fight for race wins & Championships again".

That after he out-qualified by pastor 2 straight races. Rubens driving his balls off & him taking Williams to their first WDC after many years. Point is Rubens is a decent driver but he is delusional & considers himself 2 rungs higher than what he actually is.

Rubens during his Brawn GP days with Button as team-mate(2009).

“I guess it was on strategy, in the pit-lane,” he fired back, when asked where the race had gone away from him. “It was a good show from the team on how to lose a race today. For me, I'm terribly upset with the way things went, because I did all I had to do. I had to be first into the first corner which is what I did, and then they made me lose the race basically.

“I feel sorry for myself and I feel sorry for the team. I'm not saying that they favour anyone, but that was just a good show of how to lose a race. If it is really what's going on, we're going to end up losing both championships – that's even more terrible.

“To be very honest with you I wish I could get on the 'plane and go back home right now. I don't want to talk to anyone in the team because I don't want to understand. It would be a lot of 'blah, blah, blah, blah, blah' – and I don't want to hear that.”

Disgusting really. I have seen far worse,Alonso loosing the Championship via a wrong strategy call. Compare it with Michael who's wheel fellow in Spa this year, a horrible rookie like mistake or Button after a mechanical failure. It's a disgusting attitude if you ask me. That is the beef I have with Rubens. His attitude,he thinks he is as good as Senna & no team is good enough for me,the team is bringing him down. He is quick enough to blast the team for even small mistakes but never owns up to his own mistakes.

I'm fully agree with you. Rubens Barrichello have the biggest ego in F1. And when his teammate beat him with a good car, he always come with an excuse.

It's never his fault, Irvine made a good point here.

I can't wait for Rubens to retire from F1.

Not because I think he has nothing more to offer, but simply because I can't wait for him to publish "his book"!
