let me guess...23 or younger.
I have my problems with Sir Jackie but he's earned respect.
BTW,,you don't think it's life threatening to sit in a tub full of 20 gallons of gas?
If in doubt you might consider the fate of Richard Seaman.
At La Source Seaman’s car went into a skid and left the track, crashing sideways into a tree. The driver’s compartment had been damaged and as the car burst into flames the driver was trapped.
The drivers compartment had filled with fuel..just like Sir Jackie.
To achieve anything, you must be prepared to dabble on the boundary of disaster.”

Afaik

Sir Jacky Stewart was one of the pioneers in F1 safety after seeing many of his friends and fellow drivers killed in massive accidents. The guy is one of the main reasons F1 is considered safe these days. If you think a guy is a dickhead for saving lives, you need to sort your priorities out.

And I don't know if you know but he's also a triple world champion he can't be that useless...

Quite right, we should go back to the days when a good 3-4 drivers were killed each season. #-o

I'll suggest you watch the documentary "Grand Prix: The killer years" and then make threads like this if you still feel like doing so.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

anyone would think he put up all the armco's and made every driver wear nomex and helmets

He was instrumental in improving the safety standards. A person complaining about Jackie Stewart increasing the safety standards in F1, now I've seen it all.

That's because he pretty much did. You're either a massive troll or are massively uneducated in F1. I'm 20 and even I have vast amounts of respect for a man that pioneered the ideas behind most of the safety devices we see today. It's sickening that you consider him a fool when he was the only guy to take the initiative when he saw drivers being killed every few races.

Like someone said, Watch grand prix: the killer years. Then change your tune.

First of all you are extremely rude to call someone with enormous merits for safety and clean past a "dickhhead". The way you called Stewart actually describes you.

Find BBC's "The Killer Years" documentary. Learn something, than comment.

One can hold different opinions about Stewart's day to day views of contemporary F1 matters. He sometimes takes positions that I do not agree with. But there should not be a question that he has a place in the paddock based on his achievements and character.

Image

To drive a death trap F1 car of the sixties at competitive speed on the Nordschleife or Spa was dicing with the devil and took some brass balls. Making it a tripple champion in F1 is something special in itself and should be respected. There are only three drivers in F1 history who won more championships. Nobody can deny that Stewart was a great talent of his era and he outranks hundreds and thousands of racing drivers with lesser achievements.

Others have already mentioned Stewart as the first champion and F1 personality who kicked off modern safety standards and organized the drivers. This took perhaps even more courage and could have only been done by a man who stands by his principles.

Stewart is dyslexic and not the trained PR type you expect from modern drivers but he knows a great deal more about the sport than most people posting on this board, I bet.

All the champions of the past have paddock access and are invited to share their views with the public. I think that is a very good institution. If we criticise a personality like Stewart we should do this in a balanced way which I feel is not what the OP did. It falls back on him.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

What you are saying is that you are bashing the man because you don't like his appearance, not because of his activities in F1? Why post than? I could have made identical post about Justin Bieber, and it would be identically unrelated to F1.

First F1 mobile medical care unit (1970) as the result of effort made by drivers association, among them Jackie Stewart as the driver who made great contribution in organizing drivers, standing up to those who didn't care about safety, and eventually, succeeding to make a great difference.

What happened to that "active" moderation of recent, which saw posts deleted just for lacking in perfect politeness?
