France and Belgium to alternate GP's

What if Belgium splits, and Wallonia becomes part of France? Than the French GP would be held in Spa.

I've heard Spain would be happy to lose a Grand Prix or two.

I still think it is a bad idea to split Spa. I hope they can dump Valencia and alternate Montmelo with France. Spa is just too important, even more than a German GP. Another possible split would be Hockenheim and France. Nürburgrings looks set to loose their split GP because the new state administration will not tolerate deficits.

Logic would ask why two Spanish GPs? Spa is similar to Monaco its already reached a legendary status, removing would then open to suggestion alternating Monaco with another European based Grand Prix.

That anything could prevent Spa from being an annual fixture on the F1 calendar is proof that the economics of F1 are horribly skewed.

Spa is as close as possible to being the consensus favorite amongst both fans and drivers alike. For that reason alone, I don't think it would be entirely out of line for Spa to pay the same fee as Monaco: nothing.

Its posturing by a French government minister who's job depends on Sarkozy gaining popular votes.

You can imagine the election strategists calculating how many votes they can gain from Le Pen's nationalist petrol heads by promising the return of the French GP, even better to be at the expense of Belgium.

In the meantime, the Belgium government is a bit fragile with delicate relationship between the Flemish and French speakers. What better way to bring the French speaking Belgians on side with a united defence of the Spa GP?

In simple terms, never trust a politician in an election campaign.

Spa should remain a staple of F1 racing. I'd rather see one of the boring tracks go the wayside....Valencia for sure.

+1 , Teams should give let's say a 0.5% of their sponsor-money to a SPA fund :)
Of course there's a much better scenario, but sadly it's very unlikely > Mr.E could easily resolve current threats to SPA race, but of course he thinks it would open a can of worms as he always liked to threaten organisators with dropping their race from calendar.

Mr Sarkozy certainly is sounding alot like Mr Le Pen these days what with his foreigner comments yesterday. But I do fail to see where the link with Mr Sarkozy and the resurrection of a French GP is.

Looking over at Greece, they have received some good news with their bond swap offer being accepted by creditors. The implications for France and a French GP after this is positive. However, we are only 12 months away from another big foul up. And thats just Greece. Spain and Italy have issues that dwarf those of the Greeks, and when the French are underwriting billions in leverage, the French man in the street will want this paid back before having an expense like F1.

Sure a French GP will pander to a few thousand die hards. But the lack of foresight from the government when viewed by non F1 die hards, in spending millions to host the event will probably cost more votes IMO.

Spa should be a fixture with no question marks over its place on the calender. I Just wish the powers that be realised the importance of Spa rather than dropping it in favour of a bigger paying venue with less soul. Says alot about the management of F1.
More could have been done.

To me Spa is more holy than Monaco. It is the last great home of the ancient spirit of racing in the mountains since Nordschleife went off the schedule. Cull it and I will cut my ties with F1 racing eventually.

Tax money? Is it a government-operated circuit?
