Formula 1 Applications within the real world?

I recently posted a question to help with my EPQ project at school and the replies were phenomenal so i thought i'd ask some more

I am curious about the application of technologies developed within formula 1 and their potential uses within the 'real' world:
Areas such:
- The Car Manufacturing Industry
- Obviously the safety testing,
- any other industries it has had an impact on.
