50lbs is 23-24 kilograms roughly, was his car (which I presume to mean him) really 50lbs heavier?

that´s how it was back then .

Drivers like Gerhard Berger or Hans Stuck were totally cramped into the car -Stuck had to cut off the driving shoes front half to even allow him to use the pedals in the car ....
Only later on minimum cockpit regs were introduced ...and car weight was defined complete with driver .

I think the correct modus would be to define a generic driver profile to compensate (75 kg and the ballast must be fitted in a ways to represent the true Cof G of a driver weighing that much).

I made this suggestion alreadyy on another thread but since they weigh the driver now with helmet, HANS, gloves, boots, suit etc, they should add to that ensemble the seat (which is mandated to be easy to remove for rescue purposes) and mandate the whole lot weighs 90kg+/-2kg. Problem solved, and pretty easy too.

I know Nigel used significantly less fuel than his team mate Ricardo Patrese who liked to throttle brake into corners. That would of equaled things out a bit with his team mate anyway.

Yes till the 90s heavy dirivers had a bigger penalty than today, becuase the weight rule was 505kg forthe car without driver. So in 1990 compared to the 20kgs lighter alain Prost Mansell started with a 0.6sec handicap.
