I wonder if they square the circle with this, and keep both Magnussen and Button? Button keeps his race seat, Magnussen moves to the test team, with a contract to come into the race squad after 1-2 years? McLaren can benefit from Jenson's experience during the transition, and build Magnussen into the next Hamilton.

If that's the decision facing Magnussen it's a no brainer. I mean frankly would you want to leave a resurgent McLaren with Honda and Alonso arriving? And probably have to pay millions for a drive elsewhere? Or settle for a development seat - one he should have probably got to begin with - with a decent salary and rock solid promise of a race seat when Jenson retires in 2017, in what by then would be a prime car?
OK, so whoever this guy is he is clearly a genius in predicting this. Well done... me. :D :D :D :D :D

I think that is one of the best line ups in F1 for quite a while.

Guys, I'm excited by this.

Two of my favourite drivers, racing for my favourite team. Two world champions going head to head - it is quite a line up, possibly best on grid.

A new engine partner, new technical staff with Peter and something straight from Hollywood with two former friends come bitter enemies (Alonso and McLaren) back working together.

If they can sort their engine out, then i think they could be contenders because im sure the aero and other technicals will be handled by Peter.

Im also pleased to see they did right by Kevin, im sure he will be in a McLaren f1 car again.

I heard Alonso brought some people from Ferrari with him, do we know who?

We now have 2 teams with drivers that have been World Champions. Vettel and Raikkonen at Ferrari and Alonso and Button at Mclaren. Exciting stuff.

A dream team.
They said the same for Kimi / ALO plus Pat Fry, Tombazis and James Allison. Three of these are gone today. So, let's see. Honda has one year to get up to speed, but clearly, this seems like the right move. From a personal fan perspective, I'm glad to see such reshuffling.

P.S. If it wasn't #NoShaveNovember, I'd say that Alonso has grown beard waiting for Mclaren to announce him... :)

Vettel and Raikonnen vs Alonso and Button is an easy win for McLaren. Ferrari power vs. Honda power should also be a win for McLaren, given the organizational chaos in Italy recently, although that's not such an easy call; McLaren has a one year start on organizational setup, staff etc., but a one year deficit on experience with the new power units.

The real question is can Alonso and Button with Honda power take on Hamilton and Rosberg with Mercedes power. I actually think Alonso and Button could beat that pair with equivalent PUs, but I don't think Honda will get there, at least initially. I think they would be pretty happy with 3rd/4th in the first season though.

McLaren confirm Alonso & Button with Magnussen as a Test/Reserve.

Should be an interesting year for McLaren in 2015.

What about driving styles? Jenson's driving style is much smoother than Alonso's. Alonso sets his car up with very direct steering imo. I think Vettel and Raikkonen have similar driving styles.

Any idea what sponsors Alonso is bringing to Mclaren? I hear Santander, Movistar alot. What about Repsol since Honda have Repsol in MotoGP?
