Implementation of maps in ECUs

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Implementation of maps in ECUs

Post

I heard James Allison from Ferrari and Remi Taffin (if I remeber correctly) from Renault Sport talking about how "there is a lot of code written and that needs to be tested on these new 2014 power units". Could anybody shed some light on whether teams are actually coding themselves (C or assembler) some of their control units' behavior?

I am pretty sure that for the ECU itself, as it is provided by Mclaren Electronics, they just need to implement the Simulink models, but what about the other control units which (presumably) need to be integrated with the main ECU. Do they actually change the firmware or they just say "code to be written" and actually refer to Simulink models or modifying maps in a PC application?

No change in the ECU firmware, that's for sure. I've had the ex-Ferrari engie chief to explain the engine maps here - http://f1framework.blogspot.com/2013/03 ... ps_28.html

This year is certainly a challenge to get it right.

Thank you, very helpful article. I was a little bit amused when he referred to Excel as a way of editing the maps, but I presume that, if you know what you are doing, it's much faster than using a graphical interface.
