RS26

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

That's an incredibly thin wall casting! It's like a silk dress.

After getting used to the narrow angle V-10's, that 90 degree angle between the cylinders looks huge. I wonder what they have hidden between the banks, is it all air management, and do the intakes reach vertical, or exit at right angles to the head and cross each other? But it will lower the center of gravity at expense of width.
The exhaust cams have some device, but are at the wrong end to be for variable valve timing, I wonder what they are... some form of fluid pumps?
The exhausts are exquisite, and you can clearly see how they use different diameter pipe(s) to have a form of stepped megaphone before the collector.

I thought Renualt were one of the only teams not to use a 90degree V-Angle last year with the V10's I know some others used 90degree (Mercedes included).

Also about the exhausts...anyone else notice how the come forward before switching backwards again...I've only seen this on the F2005 Ferrari before.

For some reason, Variable-valve timing is banned in F1. But, unless it's some sort of cam position sensor, I have no idea what it is.

You're right, but this year they all must be 90 deg.

Right again! Engines are now shorter and it is more difficult to streamline the rear end so Renault pulled exhaust front which also helps in moving COG to the center of the car.

Toyota has more traditional approach on their V8

BMW seem to like big things, just look at the nose  (unlike most things bigger in not always better in F1) :P

The car seems to be described as BIG a lot...are we sure BMW's cheif is not American...All American cars are HUGE (Cos roads are wide and fuel cost less etc....)

Then again, some big cars, like the Dodge Charger are just plain cool!

Sorry for the OT

Didn't Renault have the forward curving exhaust last year? Or maybe it was Ferrari and my memory is failing!

It must be assumed the forward location of the exhaust exit is influenced by the chassis aerodynamics. Some teams have the exit further forward that others, and it's obvious they have different philosophies on packaging and aero requirements. Gone are the days when the engineers ran a pipe to the most rearward location to get rid of the exhaust.

'scuse the silly question  , but why don't they do that now? :? Is it better for aero or against the rules?

Better for aero and most of all for much higher engine rpm. Back than it was no more than 13.000 now it is over 20.000. Better cog too and less weight.
