McLaren replaced the 'Throttle pedal damper' yesterday. Why is a damper required?

No direct Connection to the throttle todays.You have to generate some force to work against .a simple spring may be excited so a damping element may come in handy.No?

It might just be a spring-unit to give the pedal a mechanical return, the xpression "damper" is often abused like that.
