Yeah G-G, I wasn't serious 'bout it being the ol' stove metal..

..most likely some kind of coating/electro-treatment, or a casting done in a 'yellow' metal alloy..
..& the monochrome repro contrast then presents a deeper shade than the rest of the 'white' metal unit..

Does the valve cover say Heidegger? I can't make out what some of the letters are.

The valve cover looks strange, is there room for spark plugs under there?
Looks like a dry sump too.

Indeed.. ..the jack-shaft arrangement allowing central PTO from the crank looks elegant,
& effective for addressing a number of practical considerations.. ..like height/harmonics & etc..
