Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The lower outlets are definitely bigger then we usually see. This is a part that most teams tend to vary slightly from race to race to control temperatures. Considering how hot Hungary is I'm not really surprised.

Upper outlet, not entirely to sure.

Didn't find any British GP. Lower one is wider indeed, and the curvature at the top looks different. I have the feeling that is because the new one goes up towards the outer side while the old one remains level. We'll have to see if this is as trinidefender mentioned or not. The upper one, ..., I'm still not sure.

Good catch @mclaren111, Scarbs notes the same

@ScarbsF1: Even slimmer sidepods for McLaren this weekend with a noticeable bulge towards the rear

What is that piece just left of the Side Pod on the right (bottom) ?

Looks almost like it can be Air Slots just behind the driver and is part of the Headrest ??

Maybe I am crazy

Well, Button failed to make Q2 because of a failure for the MGU-K to deploy. didn't honda say that they would have full ERS use this weekend?

 Kers problems on Button's car and engine problem on Alonso, now all Honda's remarks before the race become a joke!

Full ERS use means full application of the different charging and deployment modes not necessarily full power. Arai always kept it in the context of improved driveablity which was confirmed by the drivers to have improved.

It is reported that Jenson's failure was a program malfunction and Fernando's failure was an electrical connection problem. Not too troublesome to sort out for tomorrow. I can't remember the last time Mclaren had so many workmanship issues. Is this Honda power unit so complex and tightly packaged that it is so difficult to prepare everything correctly?
