2 Race engine

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Does anybody the power lost that a engine has lost after one race and must compete into another race, I am guessing around 2 to 5 % ?

Also you hear a lot of talk about the peak power of f1 teams powerplant, wouldn't it be more benefical to see the hp and torque as all the cars are usually within the min wieght in f1?

Does a F1 engine lose power after it has run for one weekend? As far as I can remember engines of production cars tend to improve in performance after some milage (but plz DO correct me if I am wrong :) ).

First off, the actual power a GP engine produces is controlled by the engine management software. And of course, since one engine has to survive two race weekends including practice and qualifying, it's rare when the engineers turn it to run at 100% of it's true potential.
Although the engines are constructed and assembled with the highest levels of precision and loving attention, it usually takes some running time before an engine is producing full power. Parts have to wear in, tolerances have to stabilize. And those precious piston rings have to seat in. I believe that when Ford was running their Lemans effort, they dyno tested the winning engine, and it actually put out more after the race.

Modern race engines usually don't loose any Hp at the end of ther lives. They will usually produce more hp after they have been raced a few times. The trick is to catch the engine before it blows up. (something breaks inside of it, not wears out) In the old days like in the 80's and older the rings would wear away and create blow by and thus cause a loss of power, but with todays Rings, bearings, cylinder sleeves, valve train that is no longer an issue.
