McLaren see themselves as a big team, so even if your chassis or engine isn't that good, you should be at least capable of doing good stops.
Pit stops are the least of their worries at the moment. The crew aren't at the highest level of motivation but might get better next year as the results improve.
I remember that first Alo years of McLaren. they have company rules which decide Fernando and ham's haircut. I remember that Montoya said about Dennis "he is like a friend outside of work but when you back work he is completely different man." These are extreme exemples but (I don't know how it's said in English ) this is not match working ethic. You know Williams also not fighting to become WCC but doing great stops. I think McLaren have management issues and it's near to to us to see changing some names we are talking about generally
Ron Dennis even told Perez to tuck in his shirt. :D

Exactly. Alonso has lost a few points( single digits of course) because of shitty pitstops and strategy.
Equally it is not a serious problem, with a little extra training, which can make good pitstop.

Agreed... Williams pit-stop seems to be sensational. Currently 5th position in the championship yet managing 2.xxx sec stops in most races this season and last year.

when you're not busy practicing PU swaps and completing PU swaps all weekend, it frees you up to practice pitstops. just saying

Thats nice, but over the course of a season the lost hours spent completing extra work other teams don't allows you freedom to practice such things. One event where you dont have a pu change doesnt suddenly make up for lost practice hours over the course of a season

Every individual in the pitcrew has another job in the team. Pit crew is not a dedicated team who do nothing else. Some of them are mechanics too.

I like this debate.

In an engine change there can not be so many hands working together at the same time. Suppose there are 4 people working on the side of the engine (although for me it should be less). Let's assume 4 of which 2 as minimum are Honda engineers (not Mclaren mechanics).

The problem is that they must dismantle the floor, along with batteries etc. There will be 2 other mechanics working.
(Everything is speculation mine, if someone has a better idea, that corrects me)

But we can assume that not all mechanics work on an engine change, maybe 4 or 5.

oh i agree completely, not all mechanics will be working on the engine that also work the pit stop

seems fine to me, maybe not consistent at getting both cars into the top half but
https://www.formula1.com/en/championshi ... -2017.html

they did fine in race 3,4,6,7,8,9,10, 11
were poor in 1,13,15

but u get less chances at setting fast times with lots of early dnfs

2 dnf in race 2
1 dnf in race 12
1 dnf in race 14

If that is spec 4 and there are no mitigating circumstances why Alonso is 5th, in front of both Red Bulls and a second ahead of his team mate on a power circuit, then ditching Honda looks a predictably stupid move...
