Mercedes AMG F1 W08 EQ Power +

Are they venting hot air above the RW to lower pressure?

Or is it just that venting there means that they don't have to channel air down the coke bottle and so can have tighter bodywork at the rear?

I think they're venting it there and letting the T-wing loft it out of the way of the rear wing.

The lower rear wing, wider rear tyres and bigger diffuser might mean it's a better option than trying to feed it all into the tighter space at the rear of the sidepods?

If you look at the new engine cover the ducts seem to wrap around the side of the airbox heading down toward the radiators/intercoolers so it definately doesn't look like a bleed for the airbox for f-duct type trickery.

I suppose that a lot of hot air will come from that hole and sent to the rear wing. Clever solution.

Looks Like a heatsink in a CPU or something..

Didn't the f duct pass air over the top of the wing to stall it at high speed? Could this be doing the same somehow with the t wing

Well, close. It's 'chimney' to duct away hot airflow:

They were previously banned but Mercedes found this innovative way to get around it =D> .

The air that is being vented is very turbulent, low energetic and so it is not low pressure flow. Venting it high above the car means that less of that air has to be vented lower down the car, where it acts disturbant.

Sidepod is different from what Bottas ran in the morning. Racecar Engineering reports it's tighter. Here are the photos:

It's tightened about the amount of air which goes out trough the chimney...

This car just keeps getting more and more interesting.
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

The F-duck connected to the top of the wing and pushed air under it to stall the wing.

WOW! No signs of burn mark either? Looks like the only thing preventing that from being tighter is probably the exhaust pipes!

Note that they were also running a larger fin. Halfway in size between their original, and the Williams etc fin
