This is a big opportunity for Williams, I would guess they can get Ocon practically for free. Fingers crossed.
What is a big opportunity ? What happened to Sirotkin ? And what about Kubica ?
Its a big opportunity for Williams to grab some decent drivers for practically nothing. The only thing the Russians bring is money. Ocon Russell Kubica are 3 I'd take over the likes of Sirotkin Mazepin Markelov.
The only thing the Russians bring is money. Sort of like saying, the only thing I like about air is oxygen
You are quite right of course, and I feel the same. We would all like to see top drivers in the Williams, but if they do not have enough money to get them through the season it is understandable.
There was probably a slight chance of Alonso going there and bringing a bunch of sponsorship, but looking at the Mclaren I am not sure he has that much now, and he would not want to go to a car on the back of the field even to bring it through.
While it would be nice to see teams self funding and able to pick the drivers they (we) want, not the drivers they need I can sympathize because as much as we don't like it, I guess they like it even less.
They have a lifeline for next year if they are 'compensated for losing' Stroll, so they may have a chance to actually get the driver thy want, as long as he is cheap. IF they pick Russell, and he is good enough to bring regular points, which is a big if, they may get into a position to work themselves back up, but will still probably need the safety net of a pay driver in the other seat.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.
