McLaren MCL35 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Red Car with white details, like a Coca Cola Can
But you'd make the halo silver so it's like the ring pull on a can of coke. lol

That is a very crude design. Although the shape might be close, I doubt the real thing will look exactly like it.

Nothing in F1 is done without reason, what could be possible reasons for this?

Is there a benefit to having a blade roll structure? So the double inlet design depicted by Scarbs would be Mclaren’s tidiest aero solution? Or could the double inlet be the real reason by offering a better aero solution, perhaps for drag or by increasing the effectiveness of the sharkfin?

I wonder if there could be a second raised inlet further behind too, as the side pod inlets have ‘size zero’d’???

Do those 2 inlets look different in size? One looks higher than the other??

I remember when merc and lotus did the blade roll hoop they said the benefit was not aero but weight. I cannot remember was it lower cog or just less mass.

As far as I remember the Merc. 2010 blade had to be heavier than the hoop (round shape distributes forces better, and the minimum width of the blade has been increased after that season), and it was more about creating freedom to change the shapes around it.

But, here I don't see any blade in between, so maybe McLaren are doing something else.

That's the effect of the distortion due to the curved reflective surface of the helmet.
You can see the same distortion in Sainz head (which is not as asymetrical as it seems in the image  )

They look a different size in all the pics, not just Carlos reflection

I believe that one opening on the airbox is behind the other, rather than both being beside each other. Something like the ones used by Ferrari and Mercedes a couple of years ago, but only larger.

Nice idea but no way the second hump could be as large as in seat fix still and behind. I like scarbs drawing but agree one does look larger and perspective would normally mean the larger one should be smaller, interesting
