Looks like Mercedes single handed made a place for F1 in the ever changing world. Inclusive, high tech, environmental and succesfull . Such a contrast to Bernies words last week.

Plus, looking cool while doing it.

This isn't an April Fool's joke, is it?.... Will they now introduce "race quotas" in their personnel recruitment protocols?... If not, they'll make themselves look like massive hypocrites by around this time of next year, I reckon....

Might be a silly question, but aren't there any downsides to a black livery? Related to heat, etc.?

I like it, it's permanent right (for 2020 at least)?

Not that I know of, there is actually a weight advantage since a thinner coat is required.

Black radiates heat just as well as it absorbs it ...

It looks awesome. And well done to the team not only for drawing attention to it outwardly with that statement, but also looking inward at what they themselves can do better.
Good to see them as flag bearers for the sport.

Huge PR stunt, but it does look good.

For the manufacturers, F1 is a huge PR stunt full stop.

The nose tip looks new. I'm sure the black colour hides many updates.

Why is it a joke? It's a hugely important issue. From the headline story on the forum front page:
The team has revealed that it listened to the perspectives of its team members to learn and to reflect on the structure of the organisation. In Mercedes’ organisation, just three per cent of the workforce identify as belonging to minority ethnic groups and only 12% of employees are women, The team has promised that it will find new approaches to attract talent from many areas of society.

Apart from switching to the all-black livery, the call to ‘End Racism’ will feature on the halo of both cars, and the united F1 initiative #WeRaceAsOne will be featured on the mirrors of the W11.

The team has also announced that it will introduce a Diversity and Inclusion programme before the end of the season. The initiative will have different aims, including, „listen to and raise the awareness of our team members; forensic analysis of our recruitment and development processes; collaboration with the sport’s key stakeholders to improve accessibility to our sport; and targeted education initiatives to encourage and support talented people from under-represented backgrounds who aspire to reach F1,” read the statement.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
