Alpine A521

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The thread for last year's car picked up on the narrow nose/wide 2019 tub with the janky join of the two. Have they altered the tub or is that still happening?

The "airbox" now looks twice as large! it was already large since 2018 because of its peculiar cooling layout, but did they move the CCS backwards or made it wider?

The rear wishbones appear unchanged for now.

Relatively big changes on the sidepod size and shapes too

Holly... what a huge airbox. It's the Ligier JS5 from this century.

Sidepods inlets got smaller and more sculpted, more undercut too i think.
And that airbox.

The sidepods are another step away from the Merc and Red Bull sloping sidepods and instead trying to create an evenly rounded surface front to back, allow for airflow from over the top to curl over the edges downward.
I guess the have pursued this route to have a more straight airflow path close to the floor, perhaps in response to the regulation changes.

Trickery is supposed to be in the rear suspension. Any toughts on that so far?

Maybe airbox is big because of power gains..

The sidepod shape looks very similar to the W09 in the first week of testing from what I can tell. Also really really tiny sidepod inlets

Without the floor slots guiding air straight into the floor might be less beneficial, keeping the air attached with a good undercut and coke might be better this time (or at least Alpine appears to think so).
