Max Verstappen took the lead of the race at the wet start, and maintained that until the very end. Behind him however, lots was going on due to the mixed conditions. Lewis Hamilton fought back from an error into second while Norris put McLaren on the podium for the first time this season.
LeClerc Verstappen Bottas Perez and Hamilton all have front running pace.
In the midfield, it looks like Russell will be quite strong around here. Lando has good pace, as does Ocon, the AT boys, Gio, everyone else is going to be filling in the rear.
Gasly was taking 0.55 on the straights, Leclerc was taking 0.3 out of Mercedes. I highly doubt anything but the lowest PU settings were used on the Merc. As it is every GP, for the last 7 years. Ferrari clearly 3rd with what we know now. Any reason for that massive deficit of 0.4 between Bottas and Perez in the long runs? I cannot fathom it?
What a session. Bottas has really been exposed today. In the past his time would have been good enough for 2nd or 3rd on the grid. Spa 2020 comes to mind where he still took 2nd being so far behind his team mate. Lewis executed that pole brilliantly. Cannot wait for the race tomorrow. Formula 1 2021 is turning out to be great viewing.
Surely Merc will start considering Russell and may regret not promoting him is this kind of trend continues. If it is going to be this close this season then he cannot afford to be 0.2-0.3 behind Lewis.
