Show & Tell

Post

This is huge news…

https://the-race.com/category/formula-1/
The new ‘show-and-tell’ display that Formula 1 teams will be obliged to take part in this season will include public car presentations before practice and after qualifying.
Teams will have to declare, show & explain all major aerodynamic and bodywork components and assemblies to the media :o

… has that not just stolen our joy of doing this ourselves

Very interesting. Either teams will lie about the intentions of their upgrades *cough* Redbull ‘driver cooling’, or it could potentially reduce the delta between teams.
I think it sounds like a positive move. Get the fans more interested in the technical aspect of the sport. There seems to be a bit too much of an obsession over the colour of the paintwork rather than the bodywork and mechanical components beneath it, especially during this years car reveals.

I'm convinced we won't get reality from teams or anything other than the Jake Boxhall-Legge school of airflow analysis. It'll be, "we have this new part, it manages the air around the car"

Yes I suspect the tell part Maybe no more than them pointing it out, but this does mean an end to teams hiding Parts of the car from the cameras and other teams

I proposed exactly this, but mine was way better and monetizable...

This concept is a failure outside of a self-balancing system...

Will cars be selected at random or will all cars with upgrades have to present? It's an overall positive direction, but I agree that the fun of finding the upgrades will be taken out of it somewhat.

All the cars have to be available for an hour before FP1, within a 90 minute window, and after qualifying one, randomly selected by the race director, car from 5 teams available for half an hour. All new aero and mechanical parts have to be declared.

New parts are defined as not run in any previous official session.

In theory a team could introduce an upgrade during free practice that has not been declared and remove it before qualifying. having evaluated it for future use

The following race they could add back that upgrade without declaring it because it has been run previously

Doesn't it say teams have to declare upgrade 23 hours in advance of FP1...? I don't think will be that simple to get round

19.1 Day before on track running first practice
a) Each Competitor must provide a summary document to the Media Delegate listing
the name and brief description of all major aerodynamic and bodywork
components and assemblies
that have not been run at a previous Event or TCC
and are intended to be run at the Event (requirements and format as defined by
the Media Delegate, in conjunction with the Commercial Rights Holder). This
summary document must be provided no later than twenty-three (23) hours prior
to the start of P1.
i) The contents of this document will remain with the FIA and the Commercial
Rights Holder and will not be provided to the media until the start of the preEvent Automobile Display.
