McMurtry Speirling

Post

I believe this astounding car deserves its own thread/topic
Have posted it elsewhere but ...maybe its just me

The speed at Goodwood was astonishing...electric drive, fan driven ground effect and has some relevance to the current F1 cars aero....enjoy

"There's a new Goodwood Hill RECORD. After 23 years Nick Heidfeld's Timed Shootout record in the McLaren MP4/13 has been broken. F1 and IndyCar star Max Chilton's new 39.08 second run in the incredible McMurtry Speirling fan car has knocked over two seconds off that time.

It's also taken the Outright Hill record from the Volkswagen ID.R. Romain Dumas' time of 39.9 seconds was smashed earlier in the day in practice, and a further 0.1 seconds in the Timed Shootout."

This car is very cool, and an indication of what formula e could be if they wanted.

A shout out to the length of time that record has stood - there has been some impressive machinery up the hill in the years since but it's possible that no one had the balls to chuck it up the hill quite like Nick did on that weekend. =D>

Worth mentioning that the Volkswagen IDr did also break Nick's record by a fair margin but just not on the Sunday so it didn't become official

Good point. Still impressive that Nick's record stood for so long.

- 2 Tons of downforce.
- Weighs < 1 Ton
- 1000 hp
- 0-100k/hr - less than 1.4 sec.
- Switch off traction control and fans, floor the throttle, 0.3 seconds later the tyres are doing 200 mph (and evaporating rapidly)

Yeah but what's the range?

Some say ...500km

offers 60kWh of capacity and can sustain 30–60mins of flat-out running depending on weather and circuit. If it was subjected to the road car WLTP test it'd be good for over 300 miles (Top Gear)

Small frontal area and low C of Drag must help here. Would like to know the sensitivity of range to those factors, it appears quite high.

Impressive electro-tech tour de force performance-wise, yet styled like a kid jammed a toy car over a roller-skate!

Maybe if they'd named it the 'M-S Pug-Ugly', (or actually applied some aesthetic style-sensibility), but as is - it sucks.

in good Kiwi style - riding a Massey Ferguson farm
tractor - with a few extemporised mod's to hack the task).

Are you seriously saying it sucks JAW? I know your hate towards anything electric will never allow you to enjoy this sort of masterpieces, but saying it sucks is too much even for you #-o

It is almost an electrical version of the mid-sixties Cheetah, not practical, but built for a purpose.
