4 gearboxes allowed penalty free. So penalties incoming for Max, Charles, Bottas, Zhou and Mick. https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files ... %20now.pdf
Zhou and Mick already had 4 gearboxes in Hungary
Yes, this is the FIA doc at start of SPA weekend. We'll see who takes what and where in the coming GPs.

Final and confirmed: Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc at least both in the back on Sunday, as announced. Complete engine change and gearbox change. Confirmation from the FIA will come at one of the sessions today or tomorrow.

Seriously wonder why RB need to take the penalty. Unless it’s a case of adding another set of components to the pool which will see them through to the end. RB’s first engine in Max’s car lasted a good while, then it seems we’ve had the others in quick succession

perfect time to do it really, spa being so easy to race on and overtake and it gives you a really nice fresh PU for monza

True. Whilst the win would be nice this weekend, it’s wise to consider the longer term of possible penalties.

Anyone able to look at the FIA data and see what race numbers they put new engines in?

They will have to eventually to get the ERS upgrade and Spa will be the easiest race to overtake for the next few races

Just covering Leclerc. And the track makes sense with the overtaking opportunities.

BS. They win here and Max is practically a Champ already.

They will need to take the penalty at some point in the season. Taking it at the same place as Leclerc is the smartest option from a championship perspective as he can outscore him at that race too.

And in addition, RB probably, as many of us did as well already expected Leclerc to be taking that PU penalty too, which means that it's a straight-ish fight; with the large lead in both championships that seems like a solid plan to me, more than taking a good chunk of points but having to worry about a later PU penalty at a bad track (or a DNF).

Not really. Best point to take the penalty is when they already have wrapped up championships and especially when they were certain the race would be wet.

They will need to take the penalty at some point, it has no impact on the championship whether they take the penalty now or 3 races from the end.

The only things they need to consider are if the track is good for overtaking, and who else is taking penalties that race. They did that and determined Spa is the best option.
