Having had last chicane removed, do you think teams will abandon high DF configurations and move into more medium DF levels, similar to Melbourne? I definitely think RB will do that, especially as their last year full DF wing didnt give them that much pace overal.

2003. 2006 had the tight T10 that was opened up in 2021. This layout is now closest to the 2003 layout.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

My understanding was that Barcelona racetrack was already a medium high downforce track 😳

I think RB and Ferrari will try the medium df rear wing with gurney and high df beam wing. Maybe the abandonment of the chicane will take it to a Bahrain df level.

Any chance or hope for Alonso win here?

AM don’t have the pace. Of course Alonso has a ‘chance’ of a win, but it will only come as a result of RB unreliability.

It’s the same old story really. It’s Max, and then if Perez has a clean weekend, he should come second, and then Alonso third. Usually big gaps at Barcelona by the end.

It was, until the last sector, where the chicane used to force team using maximum DF wings, as the tyre degradation was extreme cause of that during the race. Remember how Hamilton beat Max '21 as RB went medium DF and paid the price. I think this time around teams with good cars don't have to worry about it any longer and can use BAH/AUST wng levels.

2003. 2006 had the tight T10 that was opened up in 2021. This layout is now closest to the 2003 layout.
Fastest qualifying time of M. Schumacher in 2003 was 1.17:762. Curious what it will be this weekend.

Fun fact about the race in 2003: Fred came second in the Renault.

As the "new" layout removes an entire chicane, I'd expect this year's pole time to be better than Michael's from 2003. Last year, with the chicane and the first year of the new regs, pole was 1.18:75. That chicane must cost at least a second of lap time.

It'll be difficult but there's two positive news. One is some upgrades that should arrive, and the second I can't say. One negative news is Ferrari will bring a lot of upgrades apparently.

About the chicane, in 2006 the last year without the chicane the best qualifying time was Alonso's 1:14.648, so times will be pretty quick.

I wouldn’t worry about them.
