McLaren MP4-21 Rear Wing from 2006 Malaysian GP – Discussion & Insights

Post

Hi everyone,

I have an original McLaren MP4-21 rear wing, which was detached during Kimi Räikkönen’s crash on Lap 1 at the 2006 Malaysian Grand Prix. The part was recovered trackside and has been in private hands since.

Details of the Wing:

Car: McLaren MP4-21

Driver: Kimi Räikkönen

Event: 2006 Malaysian Grand Prix (Sepang)

Condition: As found after the incident, with race-wear visible

Authenticity & Discussion

The crash footage clearly shows the rear wing detaching. Watch here: YouTube Link.

The design and structure match the MP4-21’s specifications.

I’d love to hear thoughts from F1 enthusiasts and collectors about this piece. How do you verify provenance for race-used parts like this? And do you think McLaren would authenticate something like this?

Looking forward to your insights!

Are you looking to sell? If so I would be a very interested buyer [-o<

But more on topic, the visual part numbers could be validated by McLaren but they might also want the part back (very unlikely)

From the bending locally around the wall of individual honeycomb tubes where damaged, it looks to be aluminium alloy honeycomb infill with carbon kevlar skin layer outer.
