Spa to be shortened - Arrrrrrrgh

Post

http://www.f1technical.net/news/10313

I was expecting something like this when Bernie took over as the promoter of Spa. It looks like I have been right from the first time. This is really bad news. Spa is the only natural mountain track left after they abandoned the Norschleife of the Nürburgring. It adds variety and color to the season with its majectic dimensions. All that Bernie wants is saving cost for the television. this is by no means something he does for the fans. I hope this effing gnome will some day choke from all the money he makes while he destroyes the traditions of F1 for more profit.

I think as F1 Fans we should stand up against this!

Spa is to important to be cocked up like they did hockenhiem!

Whoevers idea this is should be publicly stoned!

Soon there is will be no good tracks anymore just Massively wide track with loads of places for sponsorship.

They will probably also kill Pouhon by this cut. It is a very popular corner with spectators. Btw Bernie made more money with race fees last year than with TV. So being struck with Spa by popular demand he seeks to cut his costs to increase the profit.

Yes it's criminal to allow it but how does one organise a fan based protest that would firstly have a united voice and secondly be heard. Maybe through someone like Autosport in the UK and other territorial publications as a combined thrust. I dont believe even if you bombarded the FIA website that any good would come of that given the survey they did a few years back attracted 97,000 and not a lot was adopted from it - theyre a law unto themselves. I wonder how solid that report is on the change to the track??

I think as long as Eau Rouge and Raidillion stays it still be great circuit. Pouhon is great corner but after it the whole sector is kinda boring. I think that plasing something like a fast chicane or long braking zone may in fact improve circuit.

Spa is probably the best circuit on the calendar. I was always told 'If it isn't broken, don't fix it', This seems to me what they are trying to do.

Fair point.

The current Spa is not the original circuit, so there is not much "history" to lose. Just as long as they keep the challenge and flow from Pouhon to Blnchimont there's no reason it won't remain a great track.

To me, the essence of Spa is that it follows the natural terrain and is big enough that an F1 car actually has room to "breathe" - I don't think you will lose that by changing bits of the track. It will remain a great circuit.

Personally - I do like Fagnes because it's a very good corner and also the run from Stavelot to Blanchimont simply because it is briefly on part of the old circuit.

How can you change Spa? It's one of the last great tracks still in F1! Someone please get rid of Bernie before he ruins all the decent tracks!

Actually I quite like the idea, it means that drivers would pass Eau Rouge more than 44 times!

Imagine if they connected the two sections with a bit as good Eau Rouge....

It's my all time favorite. #-o

I can't tell you how upset I am about the news (without using **** words at least).

I'll consider to quit following F1 if this happens. It seems that they deliberately ruin all that I like about Formula1.

Perhaps you can give it try?

You know, I can imagine Pouhon being a left, left - right combination - downhill - it could be great!

Just something simple like tacking on a long sweeping right hander after the exit of Pouhon - then a short straight and go left, then head towards Blanchimont.

Honestly - it needn't be a bad thing. It just sounds bad when you first hear it............

As timbo says - the cars will go through the best corners more often =D>

Mmmm.

I agree with RH.

This change can be bad, or good, it depend on how will be changed the track. I hope they make a good corner to connect Pouhon to Blanchimont.
