No French Grand Prix in 2009

Post

Image
The French Motorsport Federation, the FFSA, announced today that it will not promote the French Grand Prix in 2009 and this due to financial difficulties. The French race was still included on the revised 2009 calendar, but as it is cancelled it leaves next season's calendar with only 17 races.

The FFSA declared in a statement: "For reasons related to the financial situation, the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) has decided to cancel the Grand Prix of France.

"The FFSA would like to thank all customers who attended the Grand Prix of France and have supported this international event in recent years."

Maybe Montreal will take Magny Cours' place in the 2009 calendar? What do you think?

I think Montreal will take the place of Magny Cours. Bernie's probably trying to free up room for more new grand prix.

Think we will get a Canada/US GP in its place? The teams want both, and if there was a 2 week window between the races, it could fit pretty well.

Most current drivers will be happy to see the back of the French race.

Wow I was looking forward to more races next year and now its down to 17. What if Donington Park isnt ready in 2010? will we be down to 16? Not only are the # of teams dwindling so are the # of races. They need to make a race in Mexico(or Venezuala), US & Canada, pair one of them up(preferably the USGP) with Brazil and make 2 western HEmisphere swings at either end of the Calender.

I hope Canada is back. I haven't cancelled out my hotel reservations yet with the hope that the race will indeed take place.

Don't look back at the "old" venues. Max and Bernie want nothing more or less than more and more MONEY.

Which of the super rich countries does not yet have an F1 race? Look to them.

Saudi Arabia? Russia? Brazil? Korea? A second race in China?

Brazil already has a race :) Last race of the season

The FIA is really showing its arrogance, first it cancelled the Canadian grand prix without telling the Canadian circuit autority, and now it DEMANDS from the french autorities to know why it has cancelled the grand prix.

Bah.
Bernie-Max wants more money for himself, so the next races will be held in places like the Middle east, russia, Korea...
And in turn, less and less people will watch the races, and less and less will come to them.
The only way to close a stupid question is to give a smart answer
