Dose anyone know about of Mclaren's hydraulic KERS in 1998?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Articles about that are very rare. The only one I know from that time is this one:

If that's right what they wrote there almost 11 years ago, then McLaren did in fact race the system at least in Australia.

McLaren used the system in Australia and Brazil before it was banned. The main reason, as stated in the link, was that the system was also used to produce differential braking, in a way that it helped the car into turns. This led to the allegations mentioned.

I don't remember if it was Ron or Norbert who said (after the ban): "Better for us. Without braking we should go even faster". Well, they did win that year by some margin.

This was the brake steer system which gave the driver the option of braking one rear wheel harder than the other to turn the car. It didn't actually transmit power to a hydrlic storage system. In 1997 is was only avalable on one rear wheel which was selected by the team depending on the track direction but for 1998 it was driver selectable for both right and left hand corneres.

There was a KERS engine in about 2000 but the FIA banned it before it ever made it into a car. It was hydrolic and there is an article in an issue Motorsport from last year where Mario Ilien loosly discribes it.

There was no interest in shelling millions on 'green PR'. Now there is.

lol,
thats freaky the way history can be so distorted by one inaccurate article. As has been said, the system was not KERS. At the time we called it "brake steer", which accurately reflects what it did.
and why was int banned? because ferrari lodged a complaint. Interestingly, mclaren had got clearance for the divice from the fia prior and during its development....i think the fia saw mclaren had too big an advatage in the early part of 98, so made up some mumbo jumbo argument to ban it.

sounds a little similar to Renault's Mass Damper in 2006 hehe... funny enough as soon as it was banned Michael Schumacher won a race...
