Williams FW31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That would be:

Patrick Head: "Who votes we put a front wing on the car?"

Simon Cowell: "Terrible idea, you freakin' moron"

Paula Abdul: "I think it would be cute!"

Randy Whatshisface: "I'm feeling you dawg, I think we should put one o' dem on the car"

Vortex-lattice based computations.

Its basically an extension of Prandtl's lifting line theory.

It is invicid, and entirely useless in a highly turbulent environment.

Ah, that simple, I thought for a second it was what we call "design by committee"?

Surely you know by now I'm not one that would go into "management methods"... they all basically revolve around hot air and someone else doing the work.

absolutely... but what seems to be the holdup with it? Did they test it over the winter? If it is as light as they claim it looks promising

Maybe it's still being held back on safety grounds?

Nobody seems to know how far this system has been developed or tested, but perhaps it would be a fair assumption that the flybrid has been held back due to lack of funding?

scarbs, do you know anything about this?

I read that they have TEN (10!) people working flat out on the Flybrid....

10, out of ~700...

maybe 10 engineers and then they use the manufactering resources that the rest of the car/team uses.

I hope we get to see it soon

I was thinking along the lines that they might want to do alot of crash testing with the device running. I don't know if its mandatory but they may want to do it for piece of mind.

My guess is when already four races into 2009 and KERS situation for 2010 remaining uncertain, chances that a garagiste like Williams would spend any considerable resources on their flybrid are effectively zero.

They bought and own a flybrid company though so it will actually pay them to perfect the technology so they can sell the IP to other firms, produce it on a larger scale. Williams have been talking up diversifying their income, hence bidding and winning the F2 contract and buying the Flybrid company.

I'd love to see them test it in Barca...that straight needs it ;)
