Change the qualifying sessions

Post

The qualifying sessions that F1 currently have is pointless and it cost money.
Each nock out session should not be timed like they have it now.

Here is my idea:

- the driver is allowed to race only 3 laps (like in NASACAR but I hate Nascar because the races are boring) first lap would be a warm up and the last 2 laps will an all out racing.

- Only one driver would be out on the track. Next driver will come out after the previous driver completes the qyalifying session.

- teams could pick when to qualify at the begining in the middle or at the end
of each nock out session.

- When the results are in the best time is picked by the officials in every nock out session.

-Drivers could use super soft tires for optimal grip instead picking the correct tire.

- This type of style could save money and fuel.

- If FOTA or FIA are are searching for answers, I think this will be a great way to go with this type of qualifying sessions.

Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

Your idea is basically the old system, which didn't work - no one came out till the end and then there was a big flurry of activity...for fans it was rubbish. Then they switched to 1 lap attack, the order of which was based on champ positions I believe. That was dull too...

The current system works as the whole hour is a competition in itself (really points should be given out for it too).

In short I'm looking fowd to next year as it's the same as this year but without the stupid race fuel in Q3.

Thats like a bloody hybrid idea. Total nonsence.

One thing id do to the current format is have a minimum ammount of laps you have to complete in Q1 to get youre placing, id make that 12 laps, make shure the drivers are out on the track for the most ammount of time. May not save money or fuel, but Quali should be as entertaining as the race as it can be.

Id allow each driver one single set of super soft tyres for use during quali, meaning that you could have drivers mixing up the wagon at each race weekend.

Id have points included for Quali as well, id probably have 3 for pole and 2 for the overall fastest lap as well as the overall fastest could be set in Q2 or Q1. If the overall fastest gets pole, he just gets the 3 points for pole.

I think for next year everyone should have a set ammount of fuel on board for Q3 otherwise it'll just be pointless.

Well nextyear they will all be running basically empty as they don't need to carry their race fuel.

Qually for next year will be perfect. No reason to change any thing. Never fix a system that is running perfectly. The only problem is race fuel in Q3 and that is already fixed for next year. So any further changes are utter nonsense.

The only way it could be more perfect is if they add 1 more qual session... 3 sessions for 26 cars is a bit much... 4 sessions would give us back the full hour of track time qualifying(although with much more action than the old 1 hour session) that the fans desire and deserve! More track time for the saturday ticket buyers.

Qually is one place they dont need to be looking to save money... except for the banning of tire warmers... that was going to be a good rule.

I don't the your idea. The current QLF is almost perfect in my opinion.

I do not like the idea. As already stated it is too much like the old qualifying. I do not like the present system all that much either. I would rather see a practice/qualifying session over the whole hour with a tyre budget of four sets of tyres to cover qualifying and the race now that there will be no fuel strategy.

[edit]

In 2010 is it race fuel in all Q's or just Q3?

Quali, is in my opinion, the best part of the weekend. It took numerous years to get us here so let's not muck it up.

I agree; quaifying this year has been more interesting than the racing.... there is so much intensity with qualifying at the moment as the grid is so mixed up and the cars are really close.... By the time the race starts you know who's quick and who isn't so the intensity is lost.....

Next year with low fuel Q3 is going to be sweet! The 10 best drivers in the world in the 10 best cars on low fuel?! Bring it on!!!!
