Article on U.K. F1/Motorsport Industry in the 'Times'

Post

Hey folks, by chance I bought the Times the other day and it had this supplement inside about F1 Business in the U.K.

Lukily for me they have it online so I don't have to scan it, the layout is a little more clunky as each sub-article has it's own link, all of which seem to be broken at the moment. Sorry, out of my control. Keep checking back!

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/b ... _business/

It highlights the cluster effect and manufacturing legacy which, incidentally I mentioned in a post several months ago. As yet I haven't been contacted about any renumeration. :(

Interesting, in that I just finished an essay concerning the impact of Marshallian industrial districts on international trade, of which you could argue F1 is a quintessential example. Perhaps you could also go so far as to say it was a large factor in the apparent failure of USF1, attempting to compete outside of the district.

I think I read about Mr Marshall in a book 'A breif history of economics' Another great book I never made it to the end of. I love these era's when when a single person can lay out far reaching and useable ideas on such an important topic that up to that time weren't appreciated by 99% of society. To think the amount of people now that just accept that as the way the world works, we really can advance a long way in a short time. I know we are working with ever diminishing returns but there are still plenty of new ideas, many of which are discussed here. Shame that if you were reading this from your desk in the design department of an F1 team you would have to rule out almost everything worth trying as outside the scope of the technical regs.

Poor old USF1. They really looked as though they might make the headquarters and the team as a whole more accessible. I had high hopes this might rub off over here when it was seen what that could do for the brand/merchandising, instead of the replica cars and crap PR we currently survive on. I guess it's up to Red Bull now.
A brave effort guys, not only that but feasible business plan in better times and without the up's and downs of the budget cap fiasco. They deserve to hold their heads high for having a crack at it.

In an effort not to turn this into another 'demise of USF1' discussion it seems the links are working again, hurrah!

Can I add a poll to my topic after I've begun it?

I was thinking 'what most frustrates you about F1'
1) Technological Stagnation.
2) Lack of Overtaking.
3) Poor TV Coverage i.e. lack of on board shots, Hi-Def TV, intercom, overlay graphics, new & innovative camera angles.
4) Lack of official honest access to 'behind the scenes' information.
5) Perceived value of Fernando Alonso amongst otherwise sane people.

O.K. the last one I will scratch, can the poll be added to this topic? anyone want to add more options?
