Question On Young Driver Training

Post

With Force India having Paul Di Resta and now Lotus with Farus Fauzy, should all teams be forced to give one seat in FP1 over to a Test & Reserve driver or Young/Developmental driver for a minimum number of races each season???

Im trying to see ways of getting drivers up to speed and with experience of the car to avoid the situation we had last year with Badore and Grosjean, maybes not so much with Fisichella, Liuzzi and Algusauri. Im also trying to see it from a saftey point of view and a familiarisation point of view from a drivers point of view.

What else could be done appart from the current rules where a 3 day test is allowed??? Should we go back to the 2006 rule and allow 3 car usages for FP1 & FP2 as theres a spare tub already there and bring back the T-Cars just for the "Friday Drivers"???

the question is : what are the cost implications for running a third car.one big issue is for those who canot afford a third driver they will have a considerable deficit in laps and information gathered.so thats not nice.You would need an additional crew or at least soe mechanics to run that car? what about engine usage ?additional engines or have them use engines from the team allocation? who´s engines are used ,can the team decide which driver is affected?

Good points there.

But i personally think that there should be at least 14 races where a driver comes into the team and does FP1 on each team, with each of the race drivers sitting out FP1 on 7 races. This way we get to see new tallent in F1 and the new tallent gets exposure behind the wheel of the car. Not to mention the fact that teams that dont have a young driver but a test & reserve driver exposure in the car.

The only races that the FP1 driver shouldnt be allowed are Race 1, Monaco and any new tracks that are less than 2 years old on the callender. The reasons, saftey for Monaco and new(er) tracks, and for Race 1, to get the drivers up to speed properly.

Id also like to see this with a change of Pre Season testing rules, where id like to see this:

* 15 days testing maximum
* one three-day test with two four-day tests on tracks that arnt on the F1 callender.
* Each race driver is limited to 7 full days testing. NO half day tests.
* The final test is allowed to be a 2 car test (therefore allowing in effect 21 days full testing pre season)
* The remaining days to be devided between a development and test driver how the team deems fit.
* Testing distance restricted to 5KM per team
* To be eligible for the season, any team must have at least one days testing before the season starts (Defined as one timed lap before and after noon at any test session)

Those two measures will both mean that teams can develop new tallent and also make sure that there is at least two suitable drivers that can take over if need be at any race weekend if for what ever reason a driver needs to be changed out for an alterntive driver, and be up to speed with the car and competition.
