Universal joint suppliers to F1?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Universal joint suppliers to F1?

Post

Would anyone have info on different suppliers of Universal joints, typically for drive-shafts, to the Formula One teams?

Thanks, thomas

Thanks marcush, couldn't open the link though, but is GKN the preferred supplier of joints to the F1 teams?

if you read the krby text ...for a long time it was metalore supplying ALL teams

I think they still supply some, but obviously pankl is also supplying ...I think Sauber (BMW)s Driveshaft is shown in the pics in the download section
the non operative link is to the download of theier drivetrain brochure.

thats a nice piece about metalore driveshafts for Porsche..not F1 of course..

Hi Xpensive

if you look closely at this photo

http://twitpic.com/2aaxo9/full

you see the "Pankl" logo on the drive shaft of the RB6

AFAIK in applications like F1/LeMans LMP etc. it is very/more common to use a tri pod design rather then a CV joint.

I wonder what the F1 shafts are made of that they have this copper-like colour? Is it some strange alloy or the effect of some treating of steel or titanium?

afaik they are made out of titanium or a titanium alloy.
At least in the applications I have seen them.(which is not F1)

the color is due to a coating. IMO
